What has happened in Fort Lauderdale that it's ended up with a huge dead zone in downtown with empty store fronts and loud gangland type activity on the weekends while West Palm Beach has attracted major retailers to it's City Center area, people are seen walking and biking along the waterfront there and there's lots of little festivals taking place there that downtown Fort Lauderdale is now pretty much devoid of?

Does anyone in Fort Lauderdale's city government realize that it takes money to make money? If you only offer people a bunch of empty lots, bonds offices to put up money to get people out on bail, attorney offices for those accused of crimes to hire and everything just about closes up at 5pm that left of the businesses other types of businesses downtown, is it any wonder downtown Fort Lauderdale is such a magnet for the homeless?

People don't go to FtL to walk around and have an urban experience, they go for the beach. That's why its hoppin down by the water and dead in downtown which is just a place for people to work outside of Las Olas.

You don't go to FtL to walk around a bustling downtown its a beach city.,.everything is along the water. Only downtown in Broward that will perhaps satisfy urbanistas in Hollywood..which is mostly for Quebec tourists.

Not everyone's dream is a vibrant walking downtown. In FtL the focus is on the water. Florida is a beautiful place but people go to NYC or Chicago for an urban experience not Broward County.

Me? Or the chick who (like most people on this board) thinks every place should look like midtown Manhattan at 8am on a Wednesday?
