Hi Folks:

We're planning on retiring to Florida in the near future and need some help as we research from afar. We had zeroed in on Flagler Beach initially but are learning of some changes that don't seem too favorable. We need to be on the Atlantic Ocean side and prefer North or mid-coast, no further. We are looking for the following:

- a beach town
- quiet
- at least a few modern conveniences (few restaurants, convenience stores, etc...)
- we don't need jobs
- we don't have children
- we'd like to be on or across from the beach if possible; if not, some other body of water (ICW, etc...)
- we could stretch our budget to $400-$500 thousand max, but that is pushing it
- nice, friendly people
- we prefer an older-age median

Does such a town exist? We hope so! Thanks for the help.

These are a pretty generic list of requirements that can be met by any number of towns. Depending on how much space you need, you can probably find what you need in a nice, oceanfront condo in the Satellite Beach, Indian Harbor Beach, Indialantic Areas of Brevard County. Check Brevard MLS to narrow down your search to specific condos and prices.

What potential changes are you referring to? It seems like "old Florida" to us! And that is a good thing!

I'll second Flagler Beach.

Can sometimes get a bit crowded around the pier on the weekends when big events are going on in Daytona as Flagler is a natural first stop for those driving the coastal highway between Daytona and St Augustine, however most of the time its a sleepy little beach town.

Thanks, Folks. We are looking for a single family home. In regards to A1A, would it be almost unbearable to live directly on that road? I've heard that the bike traffic is constant, making the noise and the fumes quite the nuisance. We are hoping to get some clarification on that. Also, here is an article we just read about a business moving into town - certainly doesn't sound inviting: We Don't Oppose Sea Ray. We Oppose Pollutants and Debasing Flagler Beach's Quality of Life. | FlaglerLive

Any thoughts or knowledge you have is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

The biker traffic is almost exclusively on the weekends and you can live a block or two back from the main drag and not hear a thing.

Thanks again. If on the main drag, are the noise and fumes REALLY terrible or is it bearable? Pass-a-Grille looks beautiful but we need to be on the Northeastern Atlantic coast.

Everyone overlooks Fernandina Beach but in my opinion it's one of the better beach towns in Florida. It also doesn't have a biker element which is a nice advantage despite the fact you don't allegedly hear it at home, you'll hear it constantly out and about. You'll find a decent number of condos and townhouses in the 200K-300K bracket on the beach, or within a short block.
