They screwed Haines.

You just never never know when your city or neighborhood will change because some individual changes the demographics of your area. It's a problem especially in underdeveloped areas.

Basically lol. I'm sure it was easier for Hollywood/broward to come up with a few million than it will be for Haines/polk

Grady Judd will drop the hammer on them. There will be homeless stings so he can get his face in the news more often.

So do they really believe they can make the homeless go live where they don't want to go? I think the homeless will hide out and just move on to surrounding counties.

Exactly. The "homeless" migrate to wealthier areas.

The first article doesn't mention moving the homeless to polk county. It basically says the homeless will try and build another shelter in northwestern unincorporated broward county..... Where is polk county coming in?

Read the articles. Basically it started out in the FIRST article as a buyout offer to leave town. eventually, the "leader" uses that money to buy a HoJo hotel near Haines City in Polk county and turn it into a low-cost "homeless" motel shelter

Having once been homeless myself due to a bad series of events that I had no control over, I can state w/ conviction that you would have to be out of your mind to move to Florida if you were homeless. It's a right wing Republican state w/ no compassion for the homeless, and the police are bad news in spades. There are very little services, unless you want to count those large industrial homeless "service centers", which seem more like prisons than anything else. I would want to be where I ended up, in San Francisco and Hawaii. No snakes, no oppressive heat and humidity, no hostile police, and most importantly, no harassment from the right wing nut cases (oops, I mean the fine folks in Tallahassee government).

In fact, I sold blood plasma in order to get on a 3 day bus ride to 'frisco w/ $7 to my name after buying the bus ticket to escape my homelessness in Orlando (quote from the then mayor was "I know that the homeless have their problems. Let them have them somewhere else".) I was able to find housing the second day after I arrived, and got enough food stamps so that between that and the abundant soup kitchens I wouldn't starve. Anything would have been better than one more day at that Homeless Coalition disaster that was run by ex cons and sadists in beautiful downtown Orlando. It was safer to be on the streets than in there. Now I'm married and we own our own little place, but I'll never forget the meanness, pure ignorance, and hostility shown to me while I was homeless in Florida.
