My boyfriend and I are planning to move from Virginia to Florida. We have lived together for two years now, and both have wanted to move from here. We're just tired of the same scene, and to be honest there isn't much to offer where we live. We have wanted to move for while, but with recent circumstances we're ready to go now. Anyhow, we have decided on Florida. My boyfriend lived in Florida for a year during a program he was in, and has nothing but wonderful things to say about it. We're just clueless where to start. We have looked at few places online, but we're trying to figure out the best area to even start narrowing it down. We're both young, 20 & 21, so we want to go somewhere that's appealing to the younger crowd, but more importantly somewhere that has jobs and a better cost of living than here in Virginia. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

To really feel like you've moved to Florida I would recommend the coastal areas, and more specifically the Tampa Bay area which is the second largest metro area in the state and along with it a fairly diverse job market and reasonable cost of living too. Tampa in particular is probably your best bet as it's a young city population-wise and offers quite a bit to do as well. You might also consider Jacksonville which is a polarizing choice since many in the state tend to rag on it (because it actually feels more like GA than FL I suppose) but is on the coast with really nice beaches, a young population also and has the most diverse economy in the state with not nearly as much focus on tourism versus other FL cities which many find attractive. The cost of living is also the lowest of the big cities in the state and and average wages at or near the top compared to other FL cities like Tampa or Orlando.

One of you needs to find a job first. You'll have a hard time renting a place being unemployed.

Which is pretty much impossible in most occupations or without transferring with a current employer. The only feasible way for most to relocate in the present day is to move and look once you've arrived. The caveat being of course one has to save a minimum 6-8 months worth of expenses first.
