I want to retire in Destine Florida by renting a high rise condo unit so I don't have to buy it. I have enough in my investments to pay between $1,500 and $2,500 a month for the rest of my years. I am currently 72 and my home on the golf course in North Carolina is too big for me. Before my wife died of cancer 3 1/2 years ago, we had traveled to Destine Point in Destine for 23 years straight. Our experience taught us that Destine and the surrounding area had the best beaches in the country. My dream is to sit at the breakfast nook and see the Gulf in its vast beauty while drinking my morning coffee... and perhaps have a female friend sitting there with me enjoying it too.
Why is this dream so elusive and why are there no condos out there that can be rented like this?

Problem is that rents are going to go UP. PERIOD. Don't count on whatever rent you get into to remain constant. It would be much more practical to sell your home, buy a condo. The payment on a mortgage, if any, plus HOA is going to be less than renting. Rent has to cover the payment, HOA, management and profit.

Buy, don't rent.

Because a landlord would have to be a complete idiot to create such an agreement.

have you looked around. try to find a local agent to search places online for you. That's near Pensacola, not the most desirable part of Florida so I think you should be able to find something in your budget. By the way just search for apartments. condos are owned, apartments are condos that are rented. Good luck. Also if you expand the area you are looking for the easier it will ne, Florida has 100s of miles of coastline just on the Gulf side alone.

Why not sell the home in NC and buy a place where you want to live?
