So in a fit of transphobia, our alleged elected representatives have come up with this gem:

http://www.myfloridahouse.gov/Sectio...3&Session=2015

Okay, I don't have kids. But my friends who have kids want to keep an eye on them until a certain age when they're in public restrooms. And this bill would criminalize a scenario where a woman wanted to bring her five year old son into the ladies room if they were in an iffy location and nature calls. I guess instead she's supposed to send the kid into a men's room blind and just hope for the best?

I know the odds of Something Bad happening in a men's room to an unaccompanied young minor are low. Very Low. But they're non-zero and I'm willing to bet that they're going to be a lot higher than any damage caused by a transperson discreetly ducking into a stall and minding their own business.

There is no exception for parent-child needs in general, so note that this also technically criminalizes a mother-son or father-daughter diaper change in a single sex restroom if the child is old enough to be aware that boys and girls are different. (And this being Florida, a scenario with the caregiver of an elderly-disabled person of a different gender is also a big issue.)

Dumb. Dumb. Dumber.

If you've part of a parents group, talk to them about this bill and have them complain to their legislator. Because if you read the bill it's mind-blowing anti-family friendly.

And very evidently also meant to be hostile toward the LGBT community, much like the pro-discrimination bill passed in Indiana and the one pending in Arkansas that it's governor vetoed just this afternoon. Seriously, of all the issues that face this state and others the right-wingers have nothing better to do that create bills like these? Embarrassing...

Yep. Because it's far more important to protect us all from the evil LGBT people than it is to make sure that an elderly opposite sex couple can discreetly change out one of their Depends in any public rest room and not have to worry about a brown streak leaking out.

And for all the innocents who say 'but the law would never actually be used like that', they've never seen how sour a divorce and child custody or DCF case can go, and that kind of law would definitely brought up in some cases when it all went ugly.

Also let's not forget the very ridiculous premise that a trans-individual would have any interest in the body parts of those sharing the same bathroom. A male who becomes female isn't doing it because of the attraction to other women and forcing one to use a male restroom is creating issues that didn't exist prior. Though one can't help but wonder if this isn't the intent of the nasty individuals who drafted this bill.

That's exactly the intent behind this bill-to humiliate. Another example of why Florida is a laughingstock and a leader of government overreach.
