Which city or town in Florida has housing affordable with my limited Social Security income? I have never been to FL so I'm not familiar with any part of that state.

You'll have to give us a range that you can pay so we can better give you ideas of what areas you'll be able to afford.

I would recommend Gainesville, home of the University of Florida. There are a good many choices of one bedroom apartments under $500 a month and it's a top city for retirees in terms of services like a good bus system, recreational activities, cultural events, free classes for seniors/disabled at UF or Santa Fe Community College and excellent medical facilities at UF/Shands Medical Center. Bear in mind some of the apartment options in that price range will involve more student-oriented housing, but there are places where that's not as much a factor (see the link below).

Is that your total budget for a month? It will be near impossible to make it on that down here. Have you considered subsidized housing? Here in Melbourne I know that Trinity Towers in downtown Melbourne works with low income. Melbourne Senior Living - Listings for Senior Living in Melbourne, FL - SeniorHousingNet.com.
Just guessing but maybe cost $300 and then you can walk or take the shuttle to places.

You could try Lakeland which is between Orlando and Tampa. There are mobile homes you can rent for just the lot rent. These are senior parks, and I'm sure there are also family parks that have this policy also. Reason being the Home Owners have not been able, to sell their house for what they want. So they either rent them for what the lot rent is. Or to get out of dealing with ownership and the park, they turn the mobile home over to the park. The park then rents it for the lot rent. There are mobile home parks in Lakeland, where the lot rent is between $298 to $360 a month. That would be your total monthly rent plus the electric bill. So it can be done.

Look for a room to rent/apartment to share on Craigslist.
