After living down here a few years, in sobe and now nobe, we are thinking of the future. What would really help us is a complete list of walkable streets - streets like Clematis in West Palm, Las Olas in Ft Lauderdale, Coral Way in Coral Gables, even Lincoln Rd. Streets that have shops/restaurants side by side, close to each other. Not strip malls somewhere on US1. I don't know how else to define these areas - I think you can get the gist from the short list I gave.

I also know of Hollywood Blvd in Hollywood. I'm sure I'm forgetting some I've been to. And I'm sure there are a few I don't even know about. I especially don't know a lot about the northern areas - between Ft Lauderdale and West Palm.

I will accept any road/area like this from Key West (Duval St) to West Palm. Thanks for any input.

Just remember walking in Miami is considered a form of suicide along with riding a bicycle and sitting at a bus stop.

Starting north headed south:

West Palm Beach- Clematis Street, City Place, Worth Ave.
Lake Worth- There's a smal street that has some bars, restaurants, etc that is walkable, forget the name tho.
Delray Beach- downtown Atlantic Ave.
Boca Raton- Mizner Park
Lauderdale-by-the-Sea is a walkable beachside town with restaurants/shops, etc. Pretty walkable.
Fort Lauderdale- Las Olas Blvd
Hollywood- Downtown Hollywood- Hollywood BLVD
Miami Lakes-- has a cute little street/downtown with a theatre, restaurants, shops, etc.
Miami Beach- Lincoln Rd
Miami- Brickell
Coral Gables- "Miracle Mile" aka Coral Way

Am I missing any? Please add to the list. I'm curious abut this as well.

Ponce de Leon through the heart of Coral Gables.
Portions of SW8th St. and Flagler in Little Havana.
Flagler St. east of the court house.
Buena Vista Blvd. through Midtown.
NW2nd through Wynwood.
Biscayne Blvd. in the 50-s to 80's.
Wilton Dr. in Wilton Manors (?)
A1A in the heart of Pompano Beach and Deerfield Beach.

Ponce de Leon through the heart of Coral Gables - could you give an example of an intersection to start from?
Portions of SW8th St. and Flagler in Little Havana - i have no knowledge
Flagler St. east of the court house - no knowledge
Buena Vista Blvd. through Midtown - I never knew what that street was called, agreed (although owned by one company, kinda artificial, but still acceptable)
NW2nd through Wynwood - borderline, but I agree
Biscayne Blvd. in the 50-s to 80's - this is 30 blocks...are there a few specific blocks?
Wilton Dr. in Wilton Manors - agree
A1A in the heart of Pompano Beach - disagree. I drove through yesterday (which was actually inspiration for this thread) and can't find any areas with side by side stores/restaurants there.
A1A Deerfield Beach - no knowledge

(of course, just my opinions...reasonable people can disagree.)

Thanks everyone for adding to the list. This will help a lot in our future searches, and hopefully will help others too.

(I assume sarcasm...)

Coming from the north, its great to be able to go outside every day, year round (yes, even summer heat.) We walk to pubix and other errands in the neighborhood. We still go for walks down on lincoln rd, washington, even ocean dr. Happy hour friday usually starts on lincoln rd, and its not surprising if we walk to espanola/alton, etc. A bunch of my friends still don't have cars.

We are thinking of the future (kids) but still like areas where we can get out and walk. Not sure in we will stay in miami beach but we love south florida....so we are looking for options.

My ideal area would be a publix next to a good school next to the beach in a condo with low rent, in a walkable area. I can dream can't I?
