I am a native but lived in NH for 10 years. I have also lived in a lot of other places... a lot! Now I live in Clearwater. I did live in Lake Mary 4 years ago and Kissimmee before that. My husband and I with our two boys are in our mid to late 40s. With all that said we can't wait to move back over to that area. It is our chosen place with lots of traveling. Reason? It's quiet! Lots are bigger and tax and insurance are cheaper. I have two teen drivers coming up. I want to be away from the noise but a short drive to a city. We love the parks! If you are looking for a city life like most then it's not what you want. If you are looking for an outskirt away from the city it's perfect! The cost compared to Tampa is cut in half! We drive into Orlando and my stress goes away and as soon as we drive back into Tampa it's a nightmare. People are more laid back in Orlando. The area is more spread out. I4 is not a place to be in a hurry but again, compared to Tampa it's a nice ride. You really have to live in a place and know what you want. I think the gang and crime is min.... but I do live in Tampa. I will tell you Tampa is by far 100x worse than any place I have ever lived. However, people whom I work with love it here and wonder what my problem is? If the area is calling to you and you want quiet I think it's a great place. You want to lookup all the springs and camping areas. I can't wait to get the Kayaks in the lakes.

You might want to check out the schools. From my wife's brief experience with Volusia county public schools, that area is the least desirable for teachers to work in.
