What makes you interested in Deltona? I consider Deltona the furthest suburb of Orlando. It is pretty much what you'd expect out of any Florida suburbs, sort of mixed overall. Personally I wouldn't consider moving to Deltona, I can think of many other parts of Florida I'd rather be in...

I read that the county had substantially lower insurance rates than other areas...I just read that there is a gang problem there, so I need to rethink where we move...

I don't think the gang activity is all that bad, but I agree on looking elsewhere. What exactly are you looking for (assuming low insurance rates aren't your main criteria)?

We just want to be away from the snow/ice for the last years of our lives...We've been in the country since 88 where the closest neighbor is about a block away, so moving to any city with neighbors will be a challenge...We need a big lot with a nice house to put our crap in and be comfortable...Wife likes the beach so something not too far away would would be nice...Jobs won't be an issue...

Well, there are plenty of places you can find what you're looking for. I'd probably opt for somewhere in south Florida for milder winters, perhaps between about Venice and Naples on the west coast or Melbourne and Jupiter on the east coast. Those areas are relatively rural and affordable so long as you're a few miles inland.

Yes, you do. There is literally nothing in Deltona but homes (many not in the best shape) and a couple of strip shopping centers. There is no downtown and no real reason to move there unless it were the least expensive real estate in FL, which it's not. Insurance rates aren't that extreme except in the coastal areas and flood zones so there are many options out there. For affordable housing in areas that have a good bit more going on I would suggest Cape Coral-Fort Myers, Port St Lucie and the Port Charlotte-Northport-Englewood area. Good luck!

Not sure where in MO you are located, but Deltona is frequently mentioned on the Rizzuto Show (former Woody and Rizz Show) in STL lol..

We are by a little town half an hour east of Springfield...I hardly ever listen to regular radio any more...I listen to Radio Classics on Sirius ch. 82 mostly...Some of the stories in that link are hilarious...Thanks...
