Hi all, sorry I dont get back to this forum very often. We have been busy with the holiday season and life in general. I have had several emails from others who are curious if we are still enjoying living in Florida and the city of Palm Coast.
So I thought I would come here and post an update. So far, we still love living in Florida and we love it here in Palm Coast. There are still many parts of Florida that we have not discovered yet, but we plan to as time allows. we still love the fact that Palm Coast is not a huge city like Orlando, yet our location is perfectly located in between Daytona, Jacksonville, St. Augustine and Orlando only being about an hour and a half from us. Our neighborhood is very quiet and we have yet to see any "gangs" here so far. I am all over Palm Coast all the time and never see anything that even resembles a gang or gang activity here. we love the fact that there several parks and there is always something to do around here too. We also go to Flagler beach quite a bit which we still love and it would be our second choice of places to move to if we were to move from Palm Coast. Having the ocean just a short 3 miles from us is wonderful! There arent too many things that we dont like about Palm Coast, however I will mention that it would be nice to have more than one Walmart here. I dont do alot of my shopping there anyway, but ours is always very busy, we really could use more than one. We would like to see the Town Center finished, that is going to be so nice, but it seems like its taking a long time. This spring we are supposed to get a super target and some other stores and we cant wiat for that. we live in Seminole Woods and although we like the quiet, we dont always like having to drive to get to the nearest stores. It seems to be off by itself compared to the rest of the town. There is alot of traffic on Palm Coast parkway too. I have found that mostly, people are really great here. However it is true about Palm Coast having lots of northeasterners living here who dont like it here. I see this alot. I dont let it bother me though, because if they dont like it, they can just move elsewhere. But there are many many wonderful people here too! ![]() One thing we are sure that we dont miss, is the COLD weather up north! The weather here this time of year is fantastic! Sometimes we have days in the 70's and 80's, and then we have cooler days in 50's and 60's, like today. Anyway, I hope I have helped some of you who are still thinking about making the move down here, and possibly to this area. We are still very pleased and just really love the area overall. ![]() I am here too if anyone has any questions about this area. Feel free to PM me. It may take me a couple of days to get back to the forum to check for replies to this thread. Jen |

As a northeasterner I was struck by your comment that there are many northeasterners in Palm Coast who do not like the place. Can you elaborate?
I'd be interested in learning what their complaints are and whether those complaints are unique to northeasterners. Is there something about northeasterners that makes Palm Coast seem inhospitable to them? I'm interested because we are planning to retire to Florida and I'm trying to learn as much as I can about different areas and communities in the state. Thanks for your help. |

I'm a northeasterner and I love it here.
And a second Wal Mart is opening on Old Kings Rd just north of 100. I'm from Southern NJ and Palm Coast is very similar to the Medford area if you're familiar with that. I think the biggest problem with Northeasterners is the younger ones who move here thinking it's all sunshine- they don't realize that jobs don't pay as well- and that the majority of the available jobs here are service oriented. It's a more mellow way of life than the Northeast- people drive slower, they walk slower, it's just much more low key. I think some people are culture shocked with that. However, I can say that moving here is the best thing I have ever done. My son is in high school and started kindergarten here. He's getting a small town upbringing similar to mine. HI Floridabound!!
![]() Let me elaborate...I did not mean that EVERY northeasterner that moved here was unhappy. But it seems to me that there are many many northeasterners right here in Palm Coast, and alot of them seem angry with the way things are here. I think pirate girl is right, its just that things are different here than they are in the northeast. |

As a former Jersey girl my guess would be that just because a Northeasterner is telling you everything they don't like about a place doesn't necessarily mean they don't like being there or that they'd necessarily be any happier someplace else either!
Pirate Girl, are you from Medford? I grew up there but moved down south about ten years ago. We're thinking of relocating to Palm Coast. Maybe that's why I liked the area so much, it reminded me of home! |

![]() Having lived for many years both in the northeast and far south, I think up north being blunt and making sure everyone knows your point of view (and expecting that others will agree with your opinion) is standard, while down south opinions are sugar-coated and always told with a smile but also always subject to change. Don't know which is better! Thank you for sharing your comments on Palm Coast. We are also moving there in just a few months. We absolutely loved the area and are very excited to get there. I've read many negative comments on this forum about Palm Coast but I think it matters what you're coming from and what your expectations are when you get there. And hearing some positive comments always helps to know at least some people who live there are glad they do! |

I'm one of those that wrote you about it when you were asking about moving here, and what to expect. I'm glad that you're enjoying it as much as I am. As to those northeaterners that are critical of Palm Coast, most of them are people that quite enjoyed Palm Coast when it was just a one horse town and did not want it to progress beyond that. Unfortunately, Palm Coast sells itself to people that just happened to pass by in the interstate, or visited a family member or a friend, and like the hometown feel and the warmth and friendliness of its residents, and so decided to move here, as well. Palm Coast sells itself, agents just push the papers.... |
