The population or Floral city is just about right. I appreciate the suggestions. Thanks!

Trenton, Fl would be a good fit. It will be a little cooler in the winter though.

If you're looking for a safe, quaint small town with affordable housing (under 100K) check out Lake Placid. It's also in the warmer section of FL minus the freezes/frost generally speaking.

What I enjoy about this area:
-Genuine, honest, hardworking people. We are low middle class, but happy and all part of a community.
-Safe. Violent crime is nearly unheard of here
-The natural beauty is stunning
-Very affordable

I am looking for a similar town somewhere in Florida to visit in the winter and possibly make it a yearly stay. Being away from chain stores and malls is a plus. They are fun to visit from time to time but far from a necessity.

Does anything come to anyone's mind when I describe an area like this? I would prefer Orlando and south for the winter warmth.

Suggestions welcomed!
This place does in fact exist .... It's called HEAVEN

I took a look at Lake Placid and it seems to be quite a good fit. Any other similar towns?

Thanks for your input!

Check out the neighboring town of Sebring, and Lake Wales (around 50 miles north) is another town you might find appealing.

I agree with Lake Wales - very charming and beautiful small town. There is a small downtown that doesn't have much, but probably similar to where you (OP) are now.

If you like the idea of living 100 miles from the nearest mall you might get that feeling in Cedar Key Florida which is 50 or 60 miles from the nearest mall in Gainesville.,, A quick real estate check sees homes starting around $140K and up, Bit higher than you are looking for but it was a very quick check..

Many towns in Central Florida and the panhandle fit that bill. Gulf Port and Safety Harbor may be small cities, but they are surrounded by large ones. It is like one large city in Pinellas County
