Ok, I'm usually down on Florida. But this much is true: it's fantastic for kayaking/canoeing. I've paddled most of Pinellas County. Where else should I put in? I wanna check out Blue Spring State Park and Crystal River. Any other suggestions?

The Hillsborough River State Park just south of Zephyrhills on 301 is really beautiful. Lots of good areas to explore in a kayak.

ok this could be a dumb question. Are alligators a problem when kayaking? I have one too and I'm moving to central florida sometime in 07.

In my paddling I have not yet encountered one. I have hesitated on Lake Seminole for this reason though.

In my search for Kayaking in Florida I came across a blog where the guy said one headed directly for him and he wacked it on the nose with his paddle.

My guess is that once you're rolling you're o.k., but I'd pay attention when you're launching.

Most of the areas I kayak are salt water so gators are not an issue. I'd imagine in Central Florida it may be more of a consideration.

The Peace River is nice for kayaking. I have friends that go almost every weekend.

Not sure how far you're looking to travel...but the Suwannee River is beautiful. Heck, they even wrote a song about it.
