Talking Rv And Koa Campgrounds

My Wife And I Live In Port Saint Lucie Fl And Are Thinking Of Renting An Rv Out Of Jacksonville, Fl Sometime Next Month. We Want To Take Our Dogs Somewhere In Tennessee, North/south Carolina Or Georgia Where We Can All Enjoy The Cold Weather, Hopefully Snow And Have A Good Time. We've Never Rented An Rv Nor Have We Stayed At A Koa Campground. Can Someone Give Me Pros And Cons? Also, If You Know Of Any Nice, Clean Campgrounds, Please Point Us In The Right Direction. Thank You Guys.

My husband and I full-time in our motorhome so hopefully I can help. We stay in Fl in the winter and go up to the NE TN mountains in the summer. The Tn mountains are beautiful.

Have you rv'd before? Why are you choosing KOA's? Rving can be tricky in the cold weather. You really need to make sure you know how everything works or you could end up with frozen lines and leaks.

What route are you taking? We usually go I-95 north to I-26 into Asheville and north to Johnson City, TN and then we head east to our property.

To get an idea about campgrounds go to RVparkreviews.com :: Home and look up by state and then city. You can also try Trailer Life Directory and Woodall's. I prefer the TL Directory b/c it tells you more about the actual sites(we are 40 ft. long, so I have to make sure we can get in). A fantastic book for traveling the highways is called "The Next Exit". It is a definate must have for driving.

What size rig are you renting? Gas or Diesel? Diesel drives smoother and better especially in the mountains.

I have tons of info to share if you are interested. You can PM me anytime.

Lisa

Wowm

I Can't Believe You Took The Time To Offer So Much Help. We'll My Wife And I Live In Port Saint Lucie. We Want To Rent A 5 Passenger Rv. It's For My Wife The 2 Dogs And Me. I Think They Only Offer Gas On That Size Rv. As Of Now, We Want To Rent Out Of Jacksonville, In Order To Avoid The Extra Millage Charge And The High Price Of Gas. Our Goal Is To See Snow. I Want To See How Our Dogs React To It. We Have Visited The Smokies Many Many Times And Still Continue To Enjoy It Everytime We Go Out There. Our Plan It To Take The Interestate And South To Pigeon Forge. Sorry I Don' Have The Map With Me Right Now.
Do You Think We're Crazy For Going At This Time? Should We Just Wait For The Summer? You Kinda Worried Me When You Mentioned About The Lines Frezzing Up. Kinda Obvious I Guess, I Just Din't Even Think Of It.

I Will Visit Those Websites As Soon As I Send The "post Reply" Button. I'm Also Going To Try To Visit A Bookstore This Weekend To Purchase That Book.

Thank You Very Much.!!!!

FLPTR,

I'm glad I could be of some help. If you can't find the books in the store try Amazon or you can get them at a Camping World(Orlando).

I hope you guys have a great time just do your research, go to MOD deleted and go to the forums, ask other campers about winter camping. We try to stay out of the snow so I don't know much about it.

For areas of higher elevation I would try Asheville, NC, Boone, NC, and the Gatlinburg/Sevierville areas. They all have ski areas-hence possible snow.

Also make sure the campgrounds are open. Some close in the winter. You also have the option of renting a cabin in any of those areas. Check with the tourist bureau, visiter centers, or chambers for each town to get more info.

Let us know what you decide. Have fun.

Lisa

younglisa7,
Boy am I glad I found this post. My hubby and I are planning on retiring in about 3 years and we want to sell everything, get a fithwheel, and start fulltiming - staying in Florida in the winter and returning to NW Penna in the summer. Where abouts in Florida are you?
