We are a bit far from Tampa but Navarre, Pensacola, or Fort Walton Beach are great places to raise a family.

Hi Major,

Look into Tallahassee. We wish we never left!! There is a large mix of people there. The Capital, FSU, FAMU and every kind of Church and Temple. There are also plenty of people who do not get involved in any of those either.. Its very family friendly. Many people come from all over to go to school there and never leave. It is alittle more on the conservative side but not in an "ignorant" way. I'm Catholic and my husband is Jewish. WHen we moved there from NJ in 1991 we thought that would go over like a lead balloon. Guess what, noone cared and there are 2 Temples, conservative and reformed. Because of the diversity the Universities bring I know that one of your concerns wouldn't be an issue in Tallahassee. I don't know what your profession is but I would suggest to atleast check it out. Crime shows high in the stats but that's because there are 2 colleges. We lived there for 10 years and never could figure out why the numbers were high! THe schools are pretty good there too as far as Florida goes. I do know also that alot of the houses on the market now are for sale by owner so you will only see a small portion on the internet.

If you have any specific questions about the area feel free to pm me.

Good luck

MrTudo,
I think it was necessary to go public with my race and the make up of my family is because as soon as you see us together you'll know and I wanted true information before I moved my family 13 hours away into the unknown versus what I have here in Missouri which I know .I never meant to offend any one I just need true information not statistics they cant tell the mind sets of people only locals can tell me that

We just moved from Temple Terrace (Tampa suburb) to Atlanta. We had no trouble at all in Tampa as an interacial couple and have a daughter who was commented on about how cute she was all the time.

We had a much better time living in Tampa than when we were in Miami, FYI.

YOU ARE SO RIGHT!!! I agree with Major; some people don't realize becasue it isn;t an issue for them! It is an issue in many states, including WV, where I live. Good job to major for watching out for her families best interests! I commend that!

Major – regardless of what people say I think you are correct in trying to get as best information as possible regarding your specific concerns whatever they be.

That being said there are a few clues to look for that might be of help on a basic level. As was mentioned by TallyNJ any area with a good mix of people could be a good consideration. Also any area that has a high number of NEW communities will have by nature a good mix of people. New communities draw people from all walks of life and from all over [the country/world] and the great common thread is that you are all in a similar situation, you are all new to the community regardless of who you are or where you came from

The Tampa Bay region has many great areas and NEW communities!

Default I can relate

Major, I completely understand your inquiry. In response to those who criticized you for making your race an "issue", I would say that unfortunately race still is a big issue in many parts of the country and it is reasonable for you to assume that interracial families will not be readily accepted everywhere. The idea that you are making an issue of it by mentioning it is silly. We all know that there are a lot of places where interracial couples will still receive those "looks" of disapproval and still some that will take it further and be downright cruel. (Sad and very disheartening if you ask me) It's completely understandable for you to be concerned, especially if you have children to consider. That said, I'd like to believe that for the most part, people are good and you will not have too much trouble finding a great town with kind, open-minded and welcoming neighbors. Good luck to you and your family!

Default You were right to ask

Major1968,
As someone who once lived in the Tampa Bay Area and has been in an interracial marriage for 16 years I have to admit that I laughed when I read Mr. Trudo's and Red Wing Fan's comments. There comments were naive and utterly ridiculous. With that being said, my wife and our three children would not hesitate to move back to the Tampa area. Good luck to you.
God bless,
Phil
