Even sadder is that I have yet to recieve help from any Government agency. In fact at my parent's home no assistance was available. Team Metro was there a few months later to try and write fines though...

Do any of your churches have monthly food drives for the food pantry? Even if you don't go to a church, you could find the one nearest to you and ask and I'm sure they wouldn't turn down a contribution.

I volunteered at one and they would come like a swarm of rats and take what ever they could take. They took till the one station I was working at had to be shut down and police posted there before they would open again. It was a little scary I have to tell you, they were going in the trucks and just grabbing everything. The following week I saw boxes of the military rations that were given out in the bulk trash piles in the neighborhood where we gave out the food. We went through the trash getting it out because it is sealed in very sanitary packaging, this stuff is made to be dragged through jungles and we personally delivered it to some we knew needed it. The whole thing was sickening.
I forgot to ad the military MRE's that ended up in army surplus stores and selling on ebay that came from the hurricane efforts. And someone mentioned churches. My wife's church used to do something like that along with good clothing and quit. All that showed up were Haitians who would lie about having been there earlier in the day or out and out steal what they could.

No one wanted to work the store anymore and the church just plain quit. I'm not so sure it was even safe for the women to be there by themselves. I got into it wait a big fat Haitians woman who had taken arm loads of clothes and put them in her car and was back for more. They don't seem to grasp the idea of a small donation. They can have it for free for that matter but that doesn't mean they can just take everything in the place unless you physically stop them. Lets just face it, times have changed.
