I'll be honest, if your income is above average and can afford the taxes and a nice home, and don't mind the humidity, you'll love it here.

I get miserable because I hate the humidity and we're tired of renting the condo we're in. But, buying would stretch us...even in this market because of the taxes. No problem with a mortgage...but, those taxes...

Don't know if anyone on here remembers me, but I finally moved. I didn't move to West Palm as originally intended, but actually stayed in Ohio, ended up meeting a guy from Orlando. We both went back and forth for about half a year. I found myself a job in the area, a condo close by his, and moved last month. Things have since managed to go south in that department, but Orlando already feels like home to me, so I think that I made a good choice.

I spoke with a college girl who was staying at Disney on the college education deal they have and she was suppose to come back home afterwards, after being there for months she met a guy from Floirda and is not coming back. She said the exact same thing you just did, she said it feels like home to her and she is staying. Do not blame her a bit.

I've been to Florida about 4 times already and will go again in June 20th coming up!!! But I will be looking for an apartment while down there. Somewhere in Daytona Beach or Tampa (I love both).

What I like about Florida:

1. Only about 14-15 hours from my mother.
2. The beach (I'm a beach person. That's where I feel serene and happy the most).
3. It's in the southeast (where I'm from originally).
4. You can walk around in your swimsuit, on the sidewalk, and no one cares.
5. No snow!!! (thank God!).
6. I can workout everyday, all year, outdoors (no need for a gym, that's for sure).

To answer your questions...

What are you from?

I'm from Murray, Utah

Where in Florida are you moving?

I moved to Tampa last year

What attracts you to Florida?

You name it! The climate, the ocean, the fact that I'm attending college here (the list goes on)

What research did you do or have already done to pick your city or location?

I checked out the crime stats, but I failed to research specific neighborhoods in the area (I'm living in a pretty bad one, but I'm not feeling discouraged from the city itself, as I just found out where the best spots are).

Did you spend time in that town in person?

Well, I did spend time in Florida before, but as a tourist. I spent time in Orlando before.

Did you communicate with people who live their personally?

Yes

I love this state. As I said, I'm living in a pretty bad part of town at the moment, but I'm feeling very happy with Florida and I think the move here was worth it.

I can't stand our heat and humidity. if it was 4 months long, I could survive it each year. But its almost year round, 80s most of winter and some days humid, we didn't get a relief really from last year. Guess we are in for a long hot year.

Default Great Thread and Florida is sooooo nice

I lived in Florida for 9 years and moved back to New England and been living here about 10 years. I miss Florida and visit every year. Every year I say why did I ever move back to New England. The weather is depressing six months out of the year. Moving back and can't wait.

What are you from?
I'm from The Netherlands (Holland), but live since aug 2007 in NY with my American boyfriend. And I HATE NY!!!

Where in Florida are you moving?
We don't know yet. I'm going back to Holland in 1 month... just because I can't live in NY (and I miss my family). Everything is expensive, and I don't like the environment and atmosphere at all! I don't want to leave my boyfriend, but I'm not happy in NY. My boyfriend wants to try out Holland for one year (seasons are almost the same as in NY) or shall we just move to Florida???!

What attracts you to Florida?
SUN, SUN, SUN.... I love the sun! The beach, being outdoors a lot, clean area, palm trees, people are more polite, and they don't double bag (at least where I was)

What research did you do or have already done to pick your city or location?
I try to get as much as information as I can from the internet. I like to live in a beautiful, clean town..... close to stores and schools (for when we have kids). I want to live in a quiet place, but I still want some people around me.

Did you spend time in that town in person?
I went to Fort Myers for a week with my boyfriend. I don't where we gonna live but I know I liked it there. Who knows a good place to move to?

Did you communicate with people who live their personally?
My boyfriend's uncle lives in Fort Myers... and he loves it. I didn't talk much yet with locals.

Any information about Florida is welcome! I want to know about nice places, schools, prices, people... everything!!
And I hope that some people can tell me how they've handled living without their family (when they moved to Florida).... That's my biggest issue!! I don't know if I can live without my family!

jannekevt@hotmail.com

THANKS!

Good for you!!! That's one of the reasons why I'm leaving Arizona. I live in Prescott and it's cold/cool too long and way too dry for me. I hate being more than 2 hours away from the nearest lake/beach place to have fun. This place sucks! I feel for you.
