great thread!
Where are you from? Born in Lowell, MA. Raised in Boston and Hampstead, NH. Moved to Derry, NH when I was 18. Honestly, I love New England but am sick of it. I might go back when I graduate.
Where in Florida are you moving? St. Augustine.
What attracts you to Florida? First of all, I love Flagler College. The history, the beauty, the academics, the campus, the location...it's near a beach, still relatively close to places like Jacksonville, Daytona Beach, and even Orlando. It's a great choice for me.
What research did you do or have already done to pick your city or location? For my birthday, my parents gave me a trip to South Beach and I decided I'd like to transfer down to Florida. I looked through every college in the state extensively. I took a trip down to St. Augustine and although it was obviously different than Miami, I loved it.
Did you spend time in that town in person? Yes.
Did you communicate with people who live their personally? Yes. On Facebook, there are numerous Flagler groups where you can communicate to people. I even found my future roommate and his two friends from Tallahasee.

What are you from? San Francisco Bay Area, CA
Where in Florida are you moving? Southern. Miami, Ft. Laud, Orlando. Not sure if we're moving though.
What attracts you to Florida? Water, weather, educational opp.
What research did you do or have already done to pick your city or location? Not much yet
Did you spend time in that town in person? My husband has, in Pensacola and Orlando. Loved it.
Did you communicate with people who live their personally? That's what I'm looking to do with this thread. Anybody moved from California in recent years? Any 20-30+ year olds who consider themselves "neo-hippie" or "granola" (as we are sometimes called) moved there and thought it was the right decision?

What are you from? Cranberry Twp, PA, just north of Pittsburgh.
Where in Florida are you moving? Tossing around Tampa, Orlando, or Daytona.
What attracts you to Florida? The sun, the beaches, NO SNOW or cold, no state tax...
What research did you do or have already done to pick your city or location? I read this board very frequently, and we went in person.
Did you spend time in that town in person? I have spent time, my son and I have, several times this year.
Did you communicate with people who live their personally? My aunt linda and her husband live in seffner, and they love it, and I have talked to random people on the street who say "come on down!"
I can honestly say, that for whatever the reason, my body didnt ache as much as it does up here, and I really desire a new start...

Where are you from? I live in the suburbs of Baltimore, MD.
Where in Florida are you moving? Most likely the gulf coast, but I haven't decided on the specific area yet.
What attracts you to Florida? My Dad was orginally from Florida, and I loved spending the summers there as a kid. I've visited frequently over the last few years - all the way from Jacksonville to Key West, and it's just a different world there. I love the weather, the plants, the water, the whole lifestyle. And of course, ya gotta love the fact that there's no state income tax. And, although I own a very modest house in Baltimore and still owe $100,000 on the mortgage, I have enough equity to buy a home outright in some very nice areas of Florida.
What research did you do or have already done to pick your city or location? A lot of internet searches, and web-sites like this one, as well as talking to people who live there and checking things out in person.
Did you spend time in that town in person? Yes. Visited in May, and I plan to make a few more trips before next summer, when I'm actually ready to move. I want to check the area out during each season. I know that during the winter - tourist season - things can be completely different than they are in the summer.
Did you communicate with people who live their personally? Yes. The funny thing is that no matter where I was - from Ft. Myers to Crystal River - the people I talked to insisted that where they lived was the best place to be. I loved that - they were very happy to be there, and to have me join them.

Do you have a means of support? Job market here is beyond tough right now. Your post indicates the relationship is on the rocks? I think you need to talk this over with your family, not strangers on a message board.

I agree, wanting to leave your "Fiance" would indicate a problem. Counseling may help.

Where are you from? New England
Where in Florida are you moving? I'm looking into a lot of areas, Miami/Coral Gables, Sarasota, Boca Raton, Ft. Lauderdale, or Tampa. I'm waiting until my salary is higher so that I can fully enjoy Florida, but if I work hard pretty soon I'll be packing by beach bag :-)
What attracts you to Florida? The beach, the endless summer, the better COL, hopefully a job that has all I need.
What research did you do or have already done to pick your city or location? Mostly online research so far.
Did you spend time in that town in person? Some places I have, some I'm planning to visit.
Did you communicate with people who live their personally? Yes, my brother lives in Miami/Coral Gables and I also have some friends I know through him there.

I know it has changed a lot since I lived there back in the 50's!!! We will rent there first, and I will keep coming back here, and do some other research before we buy. My husband is a avid fisherman, and loves being in warm weather. I will even go fishing with him, if the weather is warm.
I lived in northern Calif. most my life, and have never lived in a area that I knew there was a lot of drug activity. Even back in the hippie days There was plenty around, I just did not know where, so thinking it was not obvious?
right now, I just do not know what area we will move to. We are looking at Venice, Nokomis,Sarasota, Longboat key, Bonita Springs(a little pricey though).
Take care everyone
