A place is what you make it. The weather can only make you so depressed. There are other factors along with that. Sometimes running away from the problems and going somewhere very different will be the cure to your depression. Instead of saying Florida cures depression, maybe you can say just moving further away cures depression. I'm sure there are people who move from CA to NY and their depression is gone.

Let's try to get back on track - the OP is looking for feedback from people who have left Florida and are now moving back (or have already moved back).

I was beginning to think they didn't exist! I am from Michigan, was born here, but lived in Florida for 3 years when I got married. First, I lived in Tallahassee, and I loved it there...such a great place to raise a family...I then lived down in South Florida, Hollywood, and it was great to be right near Hollywood Beach. I got divorced and moved back to Michigan, but I realize now I am a Florida girl at heart and miss it there. I just got my teaching certification and plan on moving back down to Florida because there are no jobs for teachers here. I am thinking about Tampa because I have lots of friends and relatives there. I was happier my 3 years in Florida than I have ever been in Michigan. Can't wait to move back![]() |

I too live in my home....all the time. I even have my groceries delivered to me so that I never have to leave the house. I run a small graphic design and scrapbook supply business from our downstairs apartment and people come to me. I also feel like I can never get my scraproom bright enough because there is just not enough natural light, especially in the Winter months.....I can barely get out of bed most days. I am sooo looking forward to being in the sun again. I used to take anti-depressants but I did not feel like they were making a difference and I am so concerned about the damage medication can do to your body. Since I was diagnosed in September of 2006 with Type II Diabetes I feel I have enough medication to take, don't want to add to it especially since I didn't feel any difference. Thanks so much for that post, you have no idea how you have just made my day! |

[b]What are you from? - Originally from Upstate NY, moved here from Souther Maine
Where in Florida are you moving? We now live in Port St Lucie What attracts you to Florida? The weather DH's job What research did you do or have already done to pick your city or location? As much online as I could, friends who lived in certain areas. DH was retiring from the Navy so we kept our options open for the whole East Coast Did you spend time in that town in person? Yes Did you communicate with people who live their personally? Now I do as I'm one of them. I don't miss the brutal cold or the snow. But being a military spouse with lots of moving I'm a firm believer that it's what you make of it. We really like it down here. |

All,
I have received a number of complains about off topic and hijacking thread. Please post to answer the original poster questions and avoid chatting about other issues. I will be editing the file as required. The OP is: So, if you have plans, have already moved or want to move to Florida we would like to hear from you. What are you from? Where in Florida are you moving? What attracts you to Florida? What research did you do or have already done to pick your city or location? Did you spend time in that town in person? Did you communicate with people who live their personally? Just some ideas. I am interested in where you moved from and where you moved to and your specifics, I am interested in hearing from those who moved away and now have moved back and decided it was the right thing for you to do. If you moved away and are coming back, where did you move to and where did you move back to in Florida? Last edited by sunrico90; 01-30-2008 at 06:52 PM. |

What are you from? Currently in SW MO
![]() Where in Florida are you moving? Pensacola area What attracts you to Florida? Gulf coast lifestyle & folks; weather What research did you do or have already done to pick your city or location? As much as possible; visiting, local paper & TV news/internet; net reseach on as many daily living topics I can think of for the area Did you spend time in that town in person? Not yet. Mid April is first trip of several planned. Did you communicate with people who live their personally? Plan to talk to anyone receptive to conversation. Sometimes just quiet observation of local interactions is of value too. How people treat each other in their community. Lived for 4 years in Sarasota and miss it, but rest of family wants a chill but not total freeze in winter. ![]() |

* I moved from Norfolk, VA
* I love the beaches, low crime, lower cost of living (Norfolk was sooo expensive), the potential for the area just to name a few. * I did extensive research.........CD was one outlet though. * Yes, I did a "Walk through" of the area and loved it. * I have no family or friends that live here........just my own personal judgement. That is what it comes down to though...........see for yourself! |
