Where are you from? NYC - Yes another one! lol Where in Florida are you moving? Haven't identified a city yet, but possibly the SE. What attracts you to Florida? The overall aesthetics, sun and the slower pace of life. What research did you do or have already done to pick your city or location? City-data, Internet and talking to others. Did you spend time in that town in person? I have spent some time in some of my choices, but not all (yet). Did you communicate with people who live their personally? Yes! It is nerve-wrecking because of all the negativity one hears/reads, but I know I will the best decision in the long run. |

What are you from? I grew up in the Midwest, lived in Tampa for a year (didn't like it, but then again I was very young and very poor at the time),moved back to Midwest, moved to Miami for 4 years (beautiful but if you don't speak spanish, forget it), moved to Los Angeles in 2005.
Where in Florida are you moving? We are considering a move to Mount Dora, outside of Orlando in the near future. 3rd time is the charm ![]() What attracts you to Florida? I love everything about Florida- the heat, the humidity, the lakes, oceans, manatees...I could go on and on. I have always considered myself a "Florida girl." I would live in a rainforest if I could, so you can imagine why I love Central Florida! What research did you do or have already done to pick your city or location? I already know I love Central Florida and have been there many, many times. I have never been to Mount Dora, but I have been doing a lot of research online. Did you spend time in that town in person? No Did you communicate with people who live their personally? No |

Make sure you visit Mt Dora for a few days before moving there. I love the town itself and the antiques but other then that you have to drive a while to get to anything like the beaches or things to do. Beautiful town and love it but if your real active then it might not fit what you mentioned above. |

Where are you from?
Past 26 years in Oklahoma City. Retired Air Force and soon retired from the FAA. Where in Florida are you moving? Leaning toward Citrus County area but also looking at Navarre in the panhandle. The only thing I don't care for is it still gets pretty cold there in the winter and that's one of the reasons for moving to Florida in the first place is no more cold! What attracts you to Florida? Weather, laid back lifestyle, great motorcyling weather year round, many more things to do that are close by, and I love all seafood! What research did you do or have already done to pick your city or location? I was stationed at Hurlburt field back in the seventies and always new I'd make it back there some day. Traveled to a few areas last year for reaseaching locations and plan to do it one more time next year just before I retire. Did you spend time in that town in person? Yes to both places I'm considering. Did you communicate with people who live their personally? Yes.. One last note. On my trip last year, Palm Coast was at the top of my list but after a four day visit, I learned that it wasn't for me. I prefer the Gulf side or the panhandle... Pete |

My wife and I plan to live in Downtown FtL for a couple years. Las Olas is AWESOME! Florida has it all. I love it because I love New York Metro Area except for winter. Guess what South Florida is basically New York With Palm Trees and Year round golf. - Yes I can take the Summer Heat. Just came back from week long trip to see the gorgeous apartment buildings on the Riverfront. What a location. It doesnt get much better then that for a young couple. or Singles for that matter. My 2 friends from College live in S. Florida. One grew up in Coral Springs the other moved to Delray from NJ. They love living there and laugh when I have to go to work in snow, ice , and cold winter New York Rainstorms. We Will hopefully be there this time next Year- We Can not Wait!! |
Sounds like a good plan. We had to move to PA for business last year. Our return to S. FL. is set for September 1st. We are counting down the days. Fall and winter have been very depressing but we keep our spirits up by saying this is the last October we will spend up north, the last Novemeber, etc. This coming Saturday we will have concluded the last Feb. ever up north, that is a huge milestone. Once we get through March, things start warming up in April, so the worst is almost over.
This time we have things set up and will NEVER leave S. FL. ever again!
Gosh you sound like us! After this winter of bad storms, snow, ice and cold weather I have had it, once I pass the border I am there unless it is a family emergency in Ohio. |

We moved to Florida in 1999, then moved away (overseas) and came back to the US to live in Raleigh, NC. When we moved to Florida, we didn't do a lot of research because it was business that brought us there. I wish we had been able to talk to people before moving but it worked out okay. We chose to live in Coral Springs, which was really nice, and got a great house (not too big, not too small) with a pool.
Although we do love it here in NC, there are a lot of things that I miss about living in Florida: I can't get used to having to put on my shoes to go out in the garage in the winter. Wearing a coat is a real drag. Wearing a coat, boots, gloves, hat, etc. is even more of a drag. Clothes cost us twice as much because you can't get away with wearing 'summer' clothes all year round! The pool was a pain to take care of but I miss it anyway. Florida sunshine is the best! The sun makes all the difference. When we lived overseas, it was rainy and gray most of the year. Totally depressing! I think it makes a difference when you're home all day versus in the office, too. The constant sun is the number one thing I miss about Florida! |
