What are you from? Originally from Florida, moved to Washington State in 2002 for my job. Transferred back in 2006.
Where in Florida are you moving? Gainesville, my home town
What attracts you to Florida? Friends and family
I regret coming back more and more each day. Why? Many new residents enjoy a more antagonistic & stressful way of life. Here’s a recent experience that explains it all:
A neighbor kept yelling at me during my morning walks, and I just smiled and waved. So he came to my house, waving his fist and screaming, “Clean up after your DOO-wog or I’ll call the cops, you &@#$%....” After figuring out that DOO-wog is a house pet of the canine persuasion, I assured him it would never happen again, smiled and tried to shake his hand, which he refused. The police came anyway, threatening to impound my messy DOO-wog who by now had viciously lunged at the neighbor...
See, I’ve never had a DOO-wog.
Let's see...driving in Washington I was flipped off a total of ZERO times in 4 years. In Florida I've been flipped off or experienced other hostile driving behavior 5 times - in just 2 months. Most had out-of-state license plates...
Those relocating here who think this is unacceptable behavior, be prepared...

Hi Everyone,
I was in the Ft Myers area a few weeks ago and noticed the property in Northport is really cheap. I'm looking for advise on this area, as I am interested in buying a vacant lot.
Thanks

Why I moved to Florida
I'm a native german, moved to FL in 2003 because my inlaws decided to retire here. My BIL lives in Minnesota, hubby and I both felt his parents would need someone to be "around" once they get a certain age. Sooooo, we moved on Highlands County. I'm a city slicker and it was quite an experience for me to settle in a rural place like Avon Park. With time I discovered that this is actually a great place to raise a family. The only thing I will never get used to is the complete lack of seasons.

Hi Everyone
I'm originally from Pittsburgh, PA. I have lived in SE Florida for 12 years. Unfortunately, I am moving to DC in just a few weeks. I will return. Why? I love the weather, I love the lifestyle (casual almost everywhere) and I like the area I live in (Martin Co.). For everyone who is moving here because they had a great vacation, I say two things: 1). Welcome to one of the most unique places in our country. It is weird, it is laid back, and it is somewhat transient. 2). Please don't tell us how much better things are back in the NE. We don't really care. If you are unhappy here, please return. Can you watch the sunrise over at the Atlantic, trout fish in Lake Okeechobee at noon, and watch the sun set at the Salty Dog Saloon in Boston? Only in Florida can you start the day at the Coral Palace in Miami and end it at Castillo de San Marcos in St. Augustine. That's why I'll be back.

I get flipped off every single day of the work week on 270 outerbelt in Columbus, Ohio. If I am going to get flipped I would much rather it be in warm sunny Florida!

This confirms my point, that this behavior is accepted, and not by us natives. Most newcomers bring a more stressful way of life than we appreciate. Instead of enjoying our laid-back, friendly southern atmosphere, newcomers impose their stressful lifestyles onto the rest of us.
There is more to life than weather. Florida has lost its charm. It's nothing more than good weather any more.

People are individuals. Some are more stressed than others. Saying that "newcomers" bring their stressful way of life and lumping them all together is ridiculous.

I agree, attitudes and stress is an individual thing and is NOT a state caused problem.
Each and every single person I know "personally" who have moved to Florida has taken their super nice personalities and charm to Florida and have ADDED to the state.
My former co worker who moved to Sebring, Florida not too long ago would be the best neighbor you will ever have and is a plus to have him in your state.
This thread is about people who have moved, wants to move or is planning on moving to Florida for the BETTER life and it is not about how these same people are a negative towards your state.
I can guarantee that of the 15+ people who I have meet on this board alone who have moved to Florida and who I have had a honor to get to know them pretty well have ADDED to the state with their own love of Florida, their charm and personalities.
It is ridiculous to think that someone flipping you off is from somewhere else.
How would you possibly know that?
Again, this thread is for those who Who is, has or wants to move to Florida ? Reply to Thread

Originally from Chicago, moved 2 years ago and would not go back! It was a struggle the first year but we did it and it was so worth it. There are differences so be prepared to make some changes. The pay isn't what it was but we knew that going into it. You have to be ready to make some sacrifices or you won't make it. They way of living is different down here, but ahh the weather is so worth it..

Would it be ok for me to ask why you picked Bradenton? Did you research it before you moved? Thanks!
