Not too many people put in blue roofs down here. After the storms of 04-05, a blue roof makes people think US Army Corps of Engineers blue roofing tarps that covered up a hole or two.

I grew up on the coast and visit both coasts frequently enough to know that yellow isn't that prevalent. I'm not saying there aren't any, but beyond the anecdotal stories provided it's not a norm.

Sure there are mostly beiges, grays, and whites, but there are a lot of yellow, blue, green, pinks,corals, etc. too. Even our shopping centers aren't always the "usual colors "you see in other places. We had a neighbor once that painted their house bright yellow-it almost glowed in the dark. within a year it was faded to the lighter yellow you see on a lot of the houses here. Another painted theirs bright blue. It still looks kind of ugly blue 10 years later. "-]

Coming from the Midwest you just don't see a lot of different colors on houses most are white, beige or gray so seeing just a few colors may seem like a lot to some.

Funny, I never noticed this, but then our house is light yellow. The sun is going to bleach out whatever color you paint your place, and dark colors adsorb light (and heat), so yellow is a good low maintenance, appropriate color for sunny cities. White is better, but it would look pretty ratty in no time, and unless you enjoy washing your home a lot, I would go w/ yellow or peach.

I don't mind any particular hue, I just don't like intense, high saturation choices for home exteriors as they tend to be literally hard on the eyes. There are some exceptions, but they're few and far between.

Where I grew up, I was accustomed to houses painted bright colors, often three or more trims. People seem to equate "Victorian" with dowdy and dull, but authentic Victorian homes were typically painted in a myriad of bright, often clashing colors. Tastes in home colors are a lot like tastes in car colors--they change as tastes change, and then repeat themselves.

If people can move here and spend their lives in multi-colored clothing like Hawaiian shirts and Bermuda shorts, then it's almost expected to find their homes clad in similar colors.
