Help! Palm Coast or St Pete
We are considering relocating to Florida this summer. We have 2 kids (7 & 13). I'm a nurse and my husband works in maintenance. We keep coming back to Palm Coast and wanted some more info. It sounds like people are unhappy there by reading some of the other posts. I would just like to have a better understanding of why. I hear there's nothing around....well how far is it to "around"? I'm used to living a little out there so if that's the main downfall we can deal with that. How many schools are in the area? Are some better than others? Which neighborhoods are the good schools located in? The houses seem very reasonable as far as price. Why is that? Are there beaches nearby? Hospitals or nursing homes nearby for jobs? Anyway, any info anyone can give us would be extremely helpful!!! We want to hear the good and the bad before deciding where to go. We're also considering St Pete but prices seem less affordable over there and a little more overpopulated. Thanks again.

I've never been to Palm Coast but you seem to have the right impressions, from what I know. St. Pete is densely populated, although it has a suburban feel in some places. I think St. Pete is probably more expensive to live in than PC, although I assume you would end up using more gas in palm coast since it's spread out.

My son's ex and my grandson live in a nice home (reasonably priced) on a canal in Palm Coast and I think it is a beautiful area. She works in a bank while finishing up her bachelor's degree and my grandson goes to a wonderful elementary school. There's not much in the way of shopping except for Walmart and Beall's, but they go to the outlets in St. Augustine (20 minutes away) when they need something they can't get at one of those. There's plenty for kids to do - my grandson plays baseball and soccer, in the summer goes to horseback riding camp, and is involved in 4H and Scouts. St. Augustine has LOTS to do as does Orlando (an hour away). We usually go to the beach in Flagler Beach, which is very clean. Palm Coast does need a newer, bigger movie theater, but I think one is being built in the next year. Everyone I've met in Palm Coast is very friendly - both retirees and young parents. The Princess Place Park is a great place to spend a day hiking, picnicing, kayaking, horseback riding, etc. There is a wide variety of chain restaurants (every one I can think of is in Palm Coast) and for additional dining, you can go to St. Augustine, Flagler Beach, Daytona Beach, etc.
I go down to Palm Coast 4 or 5 times each year and have stayed as long as 2 weeks at a time and haven't had a negative experience yet. I think it's a nice area and well worth looking into - especially now that the housing prices are down so low.

Lived in PC 10 yrs, changing rapidly with new stores finally coming to town in the new Town Center. Super Target, Ross, Linens n Things and many other stores opening this summer. Lowe's, Belks, Walmart and Beall's alrdy here. Lots of schools now which you can check online by googling PC. Pretty good town with lots of community minded folks. Whatever PC doesn't have you can always go to Daytona or St. Aug which isn't too far away. Home prices have gone down a lot so pretty decent time to think of buying, lots of rentals too.

I've been in Palm Coast for 10 years as well- and I love it here. Feel free to DM me with any specific questions.
Rocket Man and SC said alot of what I was going to post so I don't feel the need to be redundant. But suffice to say, I don't plan to move anytime soon. I think we're in the greatest part of the state- only 30 miles each from Daytona and St. Augustine. Only about 1:15 from Jax and Orlando. Only 2.5 hours from Tampa and about 3.5 hours from Miami. Although on a map it doesn't look central, it really is.
Also we have a bit of change of season here- leaves actually change colors on some trees. St. Pete is a little more tropical than PC. And very very crowded- and landlocked at this point. I believe the entire county of Pinellas is built out.

It is a real buyers market right now in Palm Coast, I have lived here for 4 years, and in Ormond Beach (next town south) for 7 years. The prices are almost give aways right now. Lots of new stores going in. Big Target, Michaels, Ross's, Petco, Linens and More, TJ Maxx, a new Walmart, new Kohls, Lowes. Some new restaurants, more needed. Daytona and St. Augustine are only about 20 minutes away....
New hospital (about 5 years old).... Good schools, enrollment increasing, new schools being built.

I'm also looking into moving to PC and this thread has been very helpful!
If you guys don't mind could you tell me if you think a granite and marble business would do well there?
My boss has asked me to research this area for a new store and I would be the one running it (which makes me responsible for the decision) so I can use your input.
Thanks
