To Dthompso,
If all Tradition residents united together, something may happen. Many working class families (not just middle or upper class) that bought in Tradition are working hard to give their Children a better future. And the developer takes advantage of their desire and use the school as bait. This is just wrong. I am not bothered by the red head's comment. This is the result of the school system in St. Lucie County.

Default Tradition Charter Lab School

Reply to Ling Ling,
When we bought in to Tradition, like I said we were told that they were going to have "a school" there. We were not told that it would be a Lab School, which is anchored by F.A.U. I do think that the concept behind the school is a good one. I am in favor of such schools being built. However, I am tired of being told that because I live in Tradition, and happen to live less than 60 feet to the school that I am not able to complain about it. It takes me 20 SECONDS to walk to the school? Am I not allowed to go because I live in here? It is not a matter of me thinking that I am better than someone else, it is just a matter of doing what is right!

Default response to Dthompso

First off I am not trying to be rude and I am certainly not ignorant! I never said you could not complain. I am not giving attitude, I just hate stupid people who just give half factual information.

I hate the fact that so many people are angry about not getting into the Tradition school. I dont like to tell people about my son going because people get mad at me, like we did something wrong. People ask me how I managed to get him in like I am shady or something. It is a very touchy subject and it is a shame because I want a good education for my kids just like everyone else.

I am sorry that Tradition told you about the school as a way to get you to buy there, that was not right. But it was always stated in the newspapers and in the school district website that the school would be public, not solely for the residents of Tradition. The people of Tradition always got inside information about the school and the shopping, etc. I know because my mother in law who lives there, would send the emails and newsletters to me from Core Communities.

It is silly the way the schools are divided up and kids are sent to schools outside their neighborhoods. I can walk to an elementary school from my house, but it is not in my zone.... it is crazy to me. But when we moved here, I knew about the schools and how they were set up with zones, so you get what you get.

I have spoken with the principal and there was a HUGE turnout of kindergarten applications, more than any other grade. Apply next year.. I know several people who got in with their kids in the older grades.

1. I just finished all my email communications with Crystal, the manager of the Divosta development where your mother in law lives. Among our HOA fee, $80 per month was sent to Tradition master association.

2. Unfortunately, I happen to live in the same development as your mother in law. If your mother in law doesn’t pay that fee, let me know. If our HOA would remove that $80 per month fee from my bill permanently, I will pay your mother in law $40 per month for a year. I think I am getting a great deal.

3. I get all the emails from Crystal about which shop would open soon and what kind of events will be held in Tradition. But I have never received any inside information. Who is the editor of that newsletter? Brian Sharkey, a friend who is one of these editors. That newsletter doesn’t have any inside info about the school or Tradition. All the info is available on the Tradition website (Tradition: Your kind of town - Port St. Lucie, Florida)

4. I may teach in that school. I do care the quality of the students there. I just run into an autistic child whose dad is so happy that he got into the special program. I am happy for him too.

Finally, I know it won’t make me smarter by continuing my “discussion” with someone who is smarter enough to know everything. So if I ever run into you, the red hair girl, I would say hi.

Fine.

Anyway, I live in Tradition and I still like the fact that there is a school here even if it is a Lab school. It looks great and therefore is still a nice selling point to the area.

But no one should be that upset. My sister went to St. Lucie West K-8 before applying to Tradition Lab school. And even though she was drafted in the lottery...she turned it down because she really liked St. Lucie West K-8. Obviously I would prefer for her to go to the Tradition school because it would be so much quicker to pick her up. But in the end, it's not about us...or how far the school is...it's about how good the schools are. And quite frankly...the school 60 feet from your house isn't the only great school for your child's education. If it were...only then would I support any form of action.
