The Cleansing of Florida!
Ok be mad at me or whatever but if people don't realize that the rich are cleansing Florida by making it impossible for middle class and lower class to continue living here you are kidding yourselves! In today's paper there is an article about how Citizens Insurance is going to raise our rate again and now all the other insurance companies will follow!
Here is part of the article, you can read the rest at: http://www.sptimes.com/2006/11/17/St...seek_rec.shtml
The net effect of the dual January-March increase is that homeowners who have Citizens policies and live in coastal sections of Pinellas could see their premiums rise a total of 97.4 percent. In coastal Hernando, the increase would be 59 percent, and in coastal Pasco, 55 percent.
Business owners would fare much worse. In coastal Pinellas, the county's 561 commercial property owners who have Citizens policies could see their premiums jump 969 percent, making the average yearly premium soar from $1,514, to $16,190.
Citizens' 161 commercial policyholders in coastal Pasco and Hernando could see increases of about 420 percent.
This is OUT OF CONTROL!!! Florida will become a desolate wasteland of closed businesses and foreclosed homes!

SunshineState,
Lets contact our senators and place some heat on their feet. If every member from the Florida Forum e-mails their senator, they will get an idea that we want changes. We can't fix it at our level, but we can start the push for reform.

They aren't going to listen
People have been writing to them for years. It's only gotten worse, hasn't it?
They try to blame the hurricanes. It wasn't the hurricanes that did this, it was the people in charge of this state and the insurance companies. Hurricanes can't raise the insurance, heck, hurricanes are just storms from Mother Nature. It's the people that are in charge that did this.
The insurance companies have been collecting all these years and make huge profits off the people of Florida. Now, they had to pay up these past two years and they go and raise the rates. What happened to all that money that they collected over all those years??? It must be lining somebody's pockets, and not ours, that's for sure.

Agree, but at least you can voice your dislike to someone that knows that must do something or get lots of negative replies. We just elected a new government lets make them work for us. I least get your satisfaction.
Your point makes sense, get an e-mail to the new governor and ask for a reply. E-mail the local TV station, build a web-site and have all the angry Floridinas saturade the state capital office with e-mails and see what happen. We are the ones that need to force the change.
If we got a savy webmaster in the forum maybe will step-foward and give us a hand. Fellow Floridians need your help....
If we are going to complain here, lets make it count...

16,190???????? Wow, I wouldn't be able to afford to eat after I paid an insurance premium like that.
I've got to agree that they've pocketed the money all these years and now had to pay out a lot so they cut and ran. Just curious though~what part do the politicians pay in this? Would they be able to lure more companies back to Fla? Would they be able to put pressure on the ins. companies to make them lower their prices?

Jammie,
How many poor politicians in Florida? We need a mediator that looks for the homeowner needs. We must force the government to step to the plate and control the homeowners insurance problem. We need action not words... and better be the action that helps the need of the state.

Don't be silly. The rich will never wait their own tables or change their own tires or work as a clerk in a pharmacy or cut their own grass. Why on earth would the rich want to "cleanse" Florida of the middle and lower classes?
