Question fort myers, or fort lauderdale?

i am hoping to move to south florida around the year 2013. now, since i am slightly disabled and receive social security, i will have to go through a center for independent living for people with disabilities, which, from what i was told, is supposed to get me the right place to live. basically, what i am looking for is pretty much a regular urban type of community. i do have rules for where i would like to live, of course; 1, at least about 2 miles or more from the ocean (due to hurricane storm surge risk). 2, not in a badly crime/drug infested neighborhood. and 3, not in a flimsy trailer/mobile home, manufactured home, wood frame house with those wide span windows, or anything that can come crashing down on me in a hurricane. also, i'd like to know, basically, which city has the most fun things to do, more support for me, and if fort lauderdale has any kind of regular transportation for a reasonable price that goes regularly to the keys and key west, as i would really like to be able to, at least on occasion, go to the keys and key west.

Wow. Fort Myers or Fort Lauderdale? Want to avoid hurricanes and crime? I think you need to take out that guidebook, again. And you better come with piles of cash.
