I will be visiting my sister in Ocala and we want to go to Cedar Keys for a day.
Any not to be missed food or experiences? Don't bothers/stay away froms?
I will be bird watching as we drive the
causeway and explore around. We will both be a little touristy.
We both would like to...see some nature, learn about the area so maybe on of those
water tours? Or rent kayaks and kayak to the nearest key? (we are older and I am fat

Thanks,

G

P.S. I will also be spending a day birding Merritt Island and Viera wetlands. Best place to have lunch?

IMO you will be totally underwhelmed by Cedar Key, Not much for the tourist to do other than eat at the restaurant, browse the few stores, walk down to the microscopic beach, look at the water and wonder whats the big deal about this place. Great place if you enjoy fishing and you will see much wildlife.

After Cedar Key give the Ocala National Forest a hike or 10

Also plenty of opportunity to rent kayak or canoe and explore the areas many rivers=

Ocala National Forest is a lot closer to Ocala than the 70 mile drive to Cedar Key.

Theres also quite a bit to do in and around Ocala=

Hm, well not to interested in drag racing museums, stuff at that link don't appeal except for Silver Springs.

I'm going to Cedar Key. I realize there aren't any beaches west of Ocala but I'm going to see the ocean!
Drive a causeway, look at shorebirds, maybe kayak to a key. I don't know how many restaurants there are, it
would be nice to have recommendations but I can figure it out.

Cedar Key is a very peaceful and nice small town to fish and relax. My folks had a home there in the 1970s. I have passed a lot of time there. Amazing area with nature and well mannered people who care about their community.

Enjoy Cedar Key!

We visited Cedar Key a few years ago for a couple of days, and thoroughly enjoyed the calm, quiet, relaxed small town. Several good places to eat, nice small shops, and beautiful views of the Gulf. We took an air-boat ride, and kayak rental is available with plenty of birds and sights to see. We will go back again one day. Enjoy your visit.

Cedar Key is very quaint, love it there. I can't think of the name but we had great seafood at a restaurant on the main drag, that was upstairs. Also, to see the water and go kayaking, Crystal River is a great option. You can drive out to Ft. Island Gulf Beach for beautiful sunsets and you sometimes see dolphins. And kayaking around King's Bay or Three Sisters Springs is awesome, very beautiful and lots of manatees. Just a thought & it's not that far from Ocala.

Have fun!!

Just to report, it was pretty windy and a little on the cool side so we didn't kayak or boat which was disappointing.
But it was a cute day trip place and I'd go back, planning on kayaking.
At at the upstairs place, Sliders? I think, decent crab cake, nothing to write home about. Sister really liked her fried haddock.
Really Cedar keys is about oysters and clams when it comes to food.
Saw some American Oystercatchers (a bird with a large orange beak) so that was good for me.
