definitely NOT!

When I had electric I would heat it from Oct-May. Now it is solely special occasion heating. My gas bill is $25-35 with household appliances and when I heat the pool it comes in at $40 a day almost to the penny!

3 days at T-Giving.....$122 bump in the bill
2 days at Christmas- $76 bump in the bill.

But to be fair, the pool is 40 ft long and if I heat it then it will be 88-90 degrees. I was the same way with the electric unit also.

88-90 degrees is more like bath water than pool water!

I had a 30 x 15 pool with a heat pump. I can't say what it added to the bill but it was minimal. When the heat pump is running, the air conditioner runs less and vice versa. For me it balanced out within $20 or so monthly. So my electric bill was pretty consistent year round. I kept the pool at 82.

On very cold weeks like this week, I turn it off, naturally.

That is the exact temperature I like in the pool and what I plan on heating it to.

My AC company just let me know they are willing to install the system. It would cost $2,000 to buy the system and around $900 to have them install it. The pool would then be heated for free, while at the same time reducing my electric bill because the condenser fan would not have to run as much to cool off the heat coming out......as it would be put into the pool instead of blowing it into the air.

@North_Pinellas_Guy, I'm in East Tampa and am also looking into heat recovery from my A/C unit. I've researched Hotspot Energy and it appears it works very well. Is that the same one you are purchasing?

If you haven't seen reviews about it, some really good ones are here:
Hotspot FPH AC heat reclamation pool heater - a review!

A video from This Old Home episode, which gives a pretty good overview on how it works and needs to be installed, if you haven't seen it already:

I still have a call out on a quote to install it. Let me know how yours goes. What company would you be using for the install?
