Trump's not stupid. He knows he can't repeal anything, it's up to the two houses in D.C., but by making provocative statements like he does he comes across as a fighting individual, not as a bought and paid for politician. That's his, ahem, trump card. I don't like him personally, but when it comes to politics, that isn't the point. Can that person get the job done, that's the question. I would vote for someone I didn't like if the situation required it.

Many years of working in politics convinced me that no one votes with their brains, they vote from their gut, no matter what they may say. Trump goes right to the emotions where people really live. Fear and hate are powerful motivators. So is trust, and Reagan parlayed that in his acting rolls into a governorship and a presidency. People apparently trust Trump. I'm not convinced that his support lies only with the extreme. Of course, at this time last election, I seem to remember that Romney was trailing badly in the polls. There's no John McCain this time, just a much weaker and sorely divided multitude of candidates. The nomination has become Trump against everyone else, and that may carry over into the election itself. Hillary or Bernie won't be playing their game, they'll be playing Trump's.

Thank you for mentioning President Gore :}

IMHO, we'll know far more about the support of the candidates once the Iowa and NH primaries are over and done. Although Trump draws large crowds, gets lots of free publicity and leads in the polls, we don't know if this all adds up to votes in the state primaries. For example, Trump, from what is reported, has among the weakest infrastructure compared to the other candidates. You apparently need a strong degree of coordination to make sure your supporters turn out in freezing temperatures to vote in NH and Iowa primaries.

Also, at the Trump rallies, there are questions as to whether or not everyone who is showing up is actually a registered republican, someone who can actually vote in the primary. Trump may also be appealing to Independents and democrats, and if that's the case, it won't help him much in a republican primary. So although I am convinced that he has certainly everyone talking about him, he may run short of votes.

Ironically, one candidate who I've heard has spent a lot of money on his network and staff in the primary states is Jeb. He has performed poorly in the debates and in the polls, but if he gets his supporters out, we could see a change in the race.

No matter what, it will be an interesting election year.

Florida voted for Skeletor A.K.A Rick Scott twice, that should answer your question.
Yes Trump will get all of the backwards States including FL.

Wasn't exactly a landslide. FL is probably no more backwards than whichever Caribbean country you came from

Out of the 5,359,735 votes cast in the Governor's race in 2010 Rick Scott defeated Alex Sink by only 61,550 votes which is hardly a mandate. He beat her by 1.2 %

Florida Gubernatorial/Lt. Gubernatorial General Election, 2010
Party Candidate Vote % Votes
Republican Rick Scott/Jennifer Carroll 48.9% 2,619,335
Democratic Alex Sink/Rod Smith 47.7% 2,557,785

Independent Peter L. Allen/John E. Zanni 2.3% 123,831

No Party Affiliation C.C. Reed/Larry Waldo, Sr. 0.4% 18,842
No Party Affiliation Michael E. Arth/Al Krulick 0.3% 18,644
No Party Affiliation Daniel Imperato/Karl Behm 0.3% 13,690
No Party Affiliation Farid Khavari/Darcy C. Richardson 0.1% 7,487
Write-in Josue Larouse/Valencia St. Louis 0% 121

Total Votes : 5,359,735

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the 2014 election he fared a bit better winning over Charlie Crist by 64,145 votes where Florida casted 5,951,561 votes.

Governor and Lieutenant Governor of Florida, 2014

Party Candidate Vote % Votes
Republican Rick Scott/Carlos Lopez-Cantera 48.1% 2,865,343
Democratic Charlie Crist/Annette Taddeo-Goldstein 47.1% 2,801,198
Libertarian Adrian Wyllie/Greg Roe 3.8% 223,356
No Party Affiliation Glenn Burkett/Jose Augusto Matos 0.7% 41,341
No Party Affiliation Farid Khavari/Lateresa Jones 0.3% 20,186
Nonpartisan Write-in votes 0% 137

Total Votes : 5,951,561

These are horrible percentages to win by any major Party & remember Obama won Florida twice whereas Bill Clinton only won time in 1996:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United..._Florida,_1992

Florida also has more registered Democrats (over 1 Million more) than Republicans. The fact that "Skeletor" Scott was elected with just over 1% of the votes cast doesn't bode well for the GOP in Florida on a national Election level.

Trump has insulted Hispanics with his caustic remarks regarding Mexicans right off the bat & shouldn't really matter since the vast majority of Hispanics in Florida aren't of Mexican descent but he comes off as very racist to the community.

All Hillary has to do is win the same counties Barack won and she will win Florida :

President Obama won all of Florida's major cities / metros except for Jacksonville.
