Default insurance

Very soon there is going to be a company that will offer 25% less than the existing rate for home owners. This will be for the state of Florida and will finally offer us rates that look reasonable again. With the rising rates of insurance it has become a factor is what people can afford in a monthly payment.
My rate is $1700 on $385,000 full replacement, 2% hurricane - Nationwide, Orlando. I can't wait to see that drop $400+It can actually make my house pmt drop to under 1300... yea. :-)

oldtimer2 is on a distinguished road
SONGBIRD42. That is not gambling. It is Russian Roulette. Get the coverage and hold on to it for 6 months or so. Then consider making a claim. Have them check out your soil. How much do you really wanna bet you are not gonna be affected. Let us know. OUCH. ...OT2

Default Just a update on citizens

I contacted my agent and asked about Citizens coming out to inspect the property and she said I had to make a claim, that they wouldn't just come out that the actual inspection was about $5,000 for them to do. She also told me that if they found something it would be mandatory that it be fixed and they would then drop me. And to be prepared to live without any HOI because no other company would touch me. I was also one of the few that added sinkhole coverage back on, most of her clients did not. She also said they would might be out to inspect the home inside/out because I was adding
the coverage back on, they pick random homes to do this.

BTW I added the sinkhole coverage back on for the cost of $1681 for the year. $210,000 coverage, down from the $300,000 they said it would cost to rebuild my home for a total lose.

If all goes well home owners will be able to get a 25% reduction in what they pay for insurance very soon. That would be good news from a sector that doesnt deliver much.

Just switched from Edison insurance that was costing me $1947 per year to Olympus which is costing me $844 per year with full replacement and 2% hurricane deductible. Same deductibles, same policy.

I would definitely look into Olympus insurance if you live in Florida. I was shocked how much my cost went down for the same policy.

Default Almost forgot

When I went to see my agent she also tried to see if another insurance company was writing in 34608 and they were not. I forget the name of the company but she said it was comprised of people that worked for other insurance companys that no longer write in Fl. and she thought they were pretty good.

If you use insurance brokers, they can assist you even if they are not in your location. My agent assisted my sister-in-law @ Jupiter.. Gave her a better rate than the local insurance company and had 3 different quotes cheaper than her current one... Is another way of doing checks and balances, is your money....

House value: 180k

Where: Leesburg, central florida

Cost..(due 2/7/08) $1,177 last year it was $1,133 went up $44.00

$500 deductible, 2%=$3600 hurricane deductible.

I'm not sure this is a good price. They said that if I put on a new roof complying with the new codes, it could go down some. They did add a catastrophic ground cover collapse coverage....they just did it, I did not ask for it. The company is Universal Insurance company of North America.

Last year when I bought the house, I received another quote too late that looked better...it was with American Traditions Insurance company...for $1037 and higher Personal liability, and medical payments coverage.

Florida's insurance problems have me so spooked I don't think I want to rock the boat at all.....
