I agree, because when I was lookiing and calling locally I couldn't find any and started calling brokers, some not even in the area.

I'm not sure this is a good price. They said that if I put on a new roof complying with the new codes, it could go down some. They did add a catastrophic ground cover collapse coverage....they just did it, I did not ask for it. The company is Universal Insurance company of North America.

Last year when I bought the house, I received another quote too late that looked better...it was with American Traditions Insurance company...for $1037 and higher Personal liability, and medical payments coverage.

Florida's insurance problems have me so spooked I don't think I want to rock the boat at all.....

You may want to up your deductable to 1,000 or more because you can't really use it because then they drop you the next year.

I don't think individuals rock boat or are dropped individually, to be safe they drop groups and areas of location.
I just recently found out why our side of county which is far from beaches has been hard to get coverage, it is due to recent reporting of discovered ancient sinkholes in my zip code area 34452.
Prices are being manipulated by insurers jacking up the valuation, reducing coverage and increasing deductibles. State should have stepped in with standardized methods of setting value, for taxes and insurance. One step further would be to do it like medicare gap policies where standardized policies written so that they can be compared.
This group is trying to do it but most are not submitting all the needed things to compare.

Just called my agent today......
I asked about changing my deductible from $500 to $1000....he said it should lower my yearly premium about $75.00.
I thought that was good.
I'm one who never puts in a claim....I have insurance for the "big one". I fix everything myself.
He told me he has clients who are just the opposite......they tell him, "I have insurance so I can submit claims......"
He has people submitting claims for burned frying pans, etc....

He also told me that when I move to Florida full time that he will make sure my car insurance is TRANSFERRED from NY to Florida, not started over....I will carry over all my discounts, etc that way, and it will be much cheaper.

I didn't know you could "transfer". I was told (many moons ago by now though), that you need to have a FL driver's license for a year first and discounts etc don't start really kicking in until about the 3rd year. Something like that? It might have been that you needed your primary address to be in FL also.

I had to start from scratch with the auto insurance when I moved to Florida 11 years ago. My son did too from about 4 years ago. Maybe the rules have changed?

vp,
I don't know....I only know what he told me. I believe that many companies are now rewarding drivers who have insured with the same company for more years, and you get better deals, like good driving history, etc....
When you start from scratch, you lose all that you have built up, etc.

He said specifically that by transferring you keep your discounts, etc and that it is just a simple address change......and that he would help transfer plates, license, etc, and that his help would make it simple and painless......good service....

Something has changed then. I wasn't happy about starting from scratch

I would say if the bank doesn't require it, most probably you don't need it....I'm 15 minutes from the ocean, a block away from the ICW, and I didn't buy coverage, neither did the bank require it when I had a mortgage....
