House cost $300,000. Homeowners ins $1800.00 Flood ins. $300.00 (lived 8 miles from the beach!) Taxes $5500.00 Auto ins is higher in Fl for 2 adults than when we lived up north with 2 adults and 1 college student. We were not prepared for that! Without our mortgage P&I, we were paying $633.00 just for taxes and homeowners ins. We never had a claim in the two years we lived there, but ins went up anyway. My sister had one small claim with wind damage and her company dropped her and the only coverage she can now afford is $1800.00 a year with a $5000.00 hurricane deductible!!! The approx value of her house is $250,000.00 They are struggling and working 6 days a week! But, they are stuck there, as you cannot sell your home, the values are down approx 30% of the purchase. Because of the economy and also the huge influx of illegals that have taken over the areas.
