Hi,

I was a FL resident from 2004 through 2013, where in 2013 I became a Tennessee resident. Later this year I will again apply for a Florida driver's license.

To my understanding there is a $225 license plate fee for non-FL residents moving into this state. Is there any known waiver for former residents? I still have my old FL license plate and car registration information. I also have a photocopy of my FL driver's license.

Thanks for any assistance.

I dont know how moving out of state will effect it, they may give you a new DL number so call the tax collector of the county where you will be moving.

If you have or had a previous tag, you can transfer that tag to the new vehicle without the $225 initial tag fee; Even if you lost the tag or turned it in. When you go to register your car at the tax collector and give your info they will find your old tag in the system. If you go thru myfloridia.com and navigate thru the dmv portion you can see if you still have the tag available.

Per a car salesman we talked to a while back, there may be a time limit on how long you can go back with an expired tag, still get credit for it, and not pay the $225 new tax fee. IIRC, you've got at least a year, but 3+ years might be pushing it. (We were thinking we might need to special order a car and that was one of the questions I had about the registration process.)
