We took the KW Express from Ft. Myers last year. Fantastic way to get there if you're as lucky as we were with perfect weather and calm seas. We've done the drive several times and wanted to try something different this time. But - and this is a big but - I do not recommend going down and back on the same day. We were staying in KW for a week, but as we were disembarking at around noon, they were announcing that anyone going on the return trip needed to start lining up at around 3. That is nowhere near enough time to explore. You basically have lunch and then get back on the boat. So I strongly recommend staying at least one night.

Next time, for something different, I'll again stress Captiva Island. I took the wife there as an anniversary getaway last weekend (last minute planning) and it was ABSOLUTELY GOERGOUS!!! The husband itself is a wonder. The dolphin/sunset cruise was even better. And I've no complaints over the selection of fantastic restaurants in the area.
The crowd was mostly elderly snowbirds from Canada and some wealthy Northern couples, so being still in our 20s (and of Caribbean descent, fair complexion) we stood out lol... But we were very well received and loved every aspect of the trip.
