Colorado to Florida?
I am a single mom of two girls and currently live in Colorado Springs, CO. Needing to start anew...
Can anyone help me with figuring out if Florida is the place to go?
Thanks

In order to get the best possible feedback, you'll want to provide more details about your current situation and what you are hoping to get out of your move to Florida.
Maybe post a few specific questions that members of the forum can answer for you.....the more specific the better.

I agree with Riv that you need to ask more specific questions.
As someone who spent most of her life in Colorado, one thing I can tell you is that Florida's climate is quite different.
In addition, Florida is a big state with regional differences.
Have you ever visited Florida?
Do you plan on working?
What about schools?

What do you do for work?
I am thinking that would be the biggest issue to tell you if Florida is the right place for you and if so where in Florida.

Starting out new is a courageous undertaking. I know CS and it is worlds apart from Florida. Given that you have children adds an entire new dynamic. What you do for a living is another key consideration as jobs and salaries are not in keeping with the cost of living here.
Florida is not the utopia one would like - there are many different aspects to this very diverse state. While I like living here it may not be to your liking. Ask questions, pay a visit, and research galore.

First off, I'm not "from" Colorado so I am familiar with different climates. I am from California and am really missing the beach.
I am in school for a Paralegal degree and there aren't opportunities here for that type of work. My children are 13 and 4 so I need good schools and safe neighborhoods. Looking to rent for awhile. Yes, I hope to be working, that's the problem, I can't find work here.
Thanks

I am a legal assistant. I know that two places are different, that's kind of what I'm looking for. I really don't like it here.
Thanks

Well there are lawyers everywhere so that will probably be an easy career to find a job with here.
I love living where I do but I do have to be honest and tell you that the crime in the Orlando area worries me. The problem here is that in order to make good money as a paralegal, you need to work down in Orlando. I have friends and a couple neighbors who do this and that means a LONG drive on a road system that is over burdened. Given all that I don't think its worth it here in this area. I live about 30 miles from Orlando.
You might look into other parts of Florida though. I don't have personal experience with other parts of Florida other then as a tourist. You might check what they are advertising as wages for the position you are looking for in other areas.

I totally understand you missing the beach, I lived in both NorCal and NY before we moved to Colorado when I was a teenager. I never quit missing the ocean.
Have you considered North Florida at all? I really like the climate here.
craigslist shows jobs in your field in Jacksonville.
