My family is moving to Florida this year, I am just uncertain to WHERE. I am a veterinarian and have had great luck with job offers so am able to live anywhere.
I am vaguely familiar with the Orlando area and would like access to the parks etc.
I am also torn as I want the ocean to be a part of our routine life.
I am moving my 2 elementary children, husband and retired mother in law.
Here are my wishes:
Low crime.
Decent schools
Access to Orlando but also fast access to either coast.
Rental home of 1500/month (who allows my pets) and able to buy a home <200,000.
Quaint area with farmers markets.
Friendly town that's easy to get around...
I heard Oveido has chickens running around which I LOVE!
I also enjoy nothing more in life than watching an amazing storm so anywhere that I can see over the top storms is great!

Am I dreaming or does this area exist?
Thanks!
Sarah

You housing budget is too low for the immediate Orlando metro area, especially if renting. Florida is a big state and I wouldn't base your move on the one place you visited once. Orlando is among the least Florida-like cities in the state in terms of overall feel and certainly doesn't offer fast beach access. Given your criteria and budget you might look at Melbourne which offers most if not of all of your criteria including quick beach access, homes on budget, good schools, lower crime and is an hour or so from Orlando for whatever that's worth.

How about you check out the Viera area which has everything your looking for as far as good schools, low crime and being a midpoint area between Orlando and the coast. Also look at West Melbourne as an option with lots of new development going on there.

I agree, good idea but above her price point a bit unless maybe renting.

Thank you.
I wasn't specifically looking IN Orlando but surrounding areas.... Deland, Deltona, Oveido etc.

I appreciate the input!

The surrounding area is still either too expensive versus your budget (such as Oviedo) or misses the mark with lower quality schools and/or higher crime in places you mentioned such as Deltona and Deland.

Have you considered Lakeland ? Its centrally located halfway between Tampa and Orlando (45 min to each).
I'm from Tampa and moved to Lakeland a year ago because Tampa, like Orlando, has become over populated.
You might like it.

Port Orange in Volusia County may work. Easy access to Atlantic beaches, good schools and relatively easy access to the theme parks using 417 or 429.

Are you a small animal vet or do you work on horses, livestock etc. I would imaging small animal vet would be best in a suburban area whereas large animal vet would do best in an agricultural area or one with lots of horse enthusiasts.

Exactly. An area like rural Eustis (32736 zip code, not 32726) or parts of Sorrento would fit the bill if you work on large animals.
