I had my credit and debit cards skimmed at several restaurants in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties...but this was back during the downturn...last time one one of my cards got skimmed was at a Rooney's at PBIA in 2012, I know because I met a client there prior to flying out and paid the tab with a card I rarely used, a week later I saw a $300 charge at a Pets Supermarket in Miami. Highest charge was over $3K at a Home Depot in in New Jersey.

Even now with the chip based cards, some places are only taking them as credit with no PIN.

Miami alone has the highest percentage of fraud in the US. Major fraud such as medical, insurance, tax, real estate and a few others. Scum bags move here, trying to get rich quick, take advantage, etc which is why, imo, FL attracts some of the most scum bags.

The whole country is going down the toilet, where have you guys been ? Sheesh, it is not just Florida with the problem. It is one of the fastest growing states which makes it popular for the good citizens of this country but it also brings in the crumb bums who take advantage in a criminal way. It will happen in any areas that are fast-growing and popular, crime will shows its ugly head.

This will happen in any popular state, look at California, there is a lot of fraud there, North Carolina will probably be next with its expansion growh, anyplace is vulnerable.

When we both had our identities stolen a few years back, it was traced to Russian hackers getting onto an unsecured computer server that held HR and payroll data.

I just got a chip credit card in the mail and it doesn't have a PIN associated with it and I just activated it yesterday.

From what I understand the thing is the ones with the chip can't be copied by skimmers and used. The original can be stolen and used but a copy shouldn't work.

Also retailers should be required to ask for ID for purchases over $25. If they don't they should be held liable, for too long they didn't care because ti was not their loss if the credit card companies wrote off the charges.
