Is Chiefland that bad? It looks so pretty and houses are so inexpensive. I realize it's kind of in the middle of nowhere, but it is within commuting distance of Gainesville and some other areas, right?

I was shocked to read it has a crime rate, it looks so tranquil.

I like the houses there because there is still a lot of land there. Where I live now, your lucky to get .24 acres.

I thought living out in the country might do me good. I can't afford a decent house in the city, and I love nature and animals.

The downside is I do still have to work, can't retire for several years.

What about Marianna or Chipley?

Can anyone tell me anything about Chiefland? How can crime be so high? There is nothing there. What about Levy county as a whole?

Chiefland is a nice town and has everything you need right there (Walmart, Tractor Supply). As for crime rates, it's Florida so it's going to seem high. Florida has the combination of both a highly transient population and an over-zealous and over-funded police culture that tend to skew statistics. In other words, it's a small town. You have nothing to worry about.

Marianna is the largest of the cities you mentioned, all are nice small towns. Chipley is probably the most isolated.
