This is how crazy things have gotten in the northeast. I can understand why FL natives don't like people from "up nawth" and NYer's (this town is about 90 mins east of NYC). But can you see why people are leaving in droves? PEZ company headquarters decided to host a free Easter Egg Hunt and chaos ensued - a 2 year-old pushed into the mud, a 4 year-old left bloodied - WTF? They had a free Easter Egg Hunt yesterday in Wellington as well. Unfortunately my 3 year-old was sick and we missed it, but I'm pretty sure it didn't end like this one. I know that things like this can and do happen everywhere. And I know that a lot of crazy sh&* happens in Florida, but it just seems like people up there have gotten angrier and angrier over the past few years. Such negativity and intolerance of others. An attitude of "you're in my way" and sense of self-importance and entitlement. You could not pay me to move back to CT. I LOVE Florida sooooo much and have never been happier since I've moved here. And I apologize for the Northerners who bring this attitude and behavior with them to Florida. They've actually been conditioned to believe that this is an appropriate way to behave. It's pretty sad, really. Makes me ashamed to tell people I'm from the north.

On a happier note...HAPPY EASTER to everyone!!!
Actually, we know a lot of people from everywhere, some great people, some we'd rather not be around. While I know what you mean by that aggressiveness and disregard for others, heck, I've seen it and had it directed at me and mine too many times to deny it, I'd still figure it's the individual and not necessarily where he is from responsible for how he acts. I know some great folks from the northeast ( some of whom can be unfiltered blabbermouths but have hearts of gold and would do anything for someone in need). So I'd never ever dismiss someone based solely on where he/she came from, I would consider the person's own actions and how he/she treats others as the measure of character.

So don't ever be ashamed ( or the flip side, arrogant and superior, I guess would be a consideration too-not you, but some folks), of where you came from.

And Happy Easter to y'all, too.

A note: registered sex offenders are not only child abusers. A sex offender is someone who commits a sexual crime against another person - whether that be against a woman, a man, a child, or the community at large. A sex offender can be a danger to ANY of us, not only to people with children!

Also, the registry is not an indication of how many people are a threat in your community - the VAST MAJORITY of sex offenders have no record of their crimes and have never been tried nor identified. An estimated 1 in 3 women in their lifetimes, and 1 in 6 men, are sexually assaulted. Sex offenders are parents in your community, are coworkers, are kids on the playground, are your own children. There is no age requirement to be a sex offender, and many registered sex offenders are actually minors who molested other children in their school or family, or minors who sexually assaulted adult women.

There are plenty of things to love about Florida, but its lack of crazy and violent people is absolutely not one of them.

The violence in FL scares me a lot more than the violence in NE cities did, because it seems to be a lot more random and not really based on something predictable.

Consider for instance that in Key West we just had a drunk guy in front of a bar fight his wife physically, and then shoot 3 people on Duval St. completely unrelated to the incident! That was only a few days ago and he is already out roaming the local streets free on bail. That does NOT happen in the NE - you would still be in prison if you did that.

And yes, we do have a higher number of registered sex offenders than many states.

Where did I mention "violence and random crimes" in my post? I'm talking about rude and angry people who can't conduct themselves appropriately in what should be considered normal activities. Besides, I know all too well about "random violent crimes." (and I'm not talking about some stupid BS story about a drunk guy in a bar fight). In the next town over from where I lived in CT, Adam Lanza killed 20 6-year-olds in one of the worst random acts of violence in the history of our country. His house was about 10 miles from mine. So statistics be damned, because that was "never supposed to happen" in a sleepy little New England town. Random horrible violent crimes can and do happen everywhere.

Clearly you are not following. Starfish was not the one who brought up sex offenders. But yes, this is a bizarre thread simply because of how crazy some people in FL are. Nothing compared to the Northeast. It wouldn't be an example of why people from move from there to FL.

23 American law enforcement officers have died in the line of duty this year. Is this national news? No, but a guy who shot 3 people (none fataly) is big news because of where it happened. Not what but where made it news.

How many "face eating" incidents have there been in FL?

Did you know that more than 500 people in NYC have been victims of slashing attack in 2016? These are random acts where a person cuts a stranger on the street with a knife or razor most often in the face. Do you see this on the news? No, you don't but if 10 of these incidents were to occur in the entire state of FL it have intense news coverage around the nation.

If you take the time to look into the crime statistics of other states and you will find that there are other states with higher crime rates. Maryland, Delaware, Alaska, Tennessee, South Carolina, Louisiana, Nevada and New Mexico all come up in the top 10 of the most dangerous states. FL is also is in the top 10 however, how many times have you seen crimes in New Mexico in the national news?

Filicide occurs hundreds of times a year in the US. How many trials involving filicide have you seen on TV?

The state of FL is not unique in anyway when it comes to human behavior. FL always gets the press because of its international prominence.

LOL, some folks will take any opportunity they see to air their own hangups and personal beefs about any topic. In this case a quite obvious disdain for all things Florida, despite the claims to like living in the state.

I'd take those comments with a grain of salt, considering the source.

Having no manners and no common decency is not an "up north thing". It's a white trash thing. And it's a problem all over the US.
If you think Florida doesn't have its share of white trash (transplants AND natives) you are in for a very rude awakening.
