If scott had some humanity (rather than being a "professional" republican) he could had said "yes, we will take federal money to provide additional healthcare, but will have to re-evaluate if the funding decreases".

I don't want my tax dollars going to fund other people's healthcare. Is that heartless? Up to interpretation but I don't want to give other people money I earned. Especially poor people whom by nature are either lazy, irresponsible or have mental problems.

So where does that leave us? Right, nowhere.

Even for the most selfish of people, there are good (even heartless) reasons to provide universal healthcare.

Medical underwriting has damaged our ability to advance in healthcare technology. I know this is 'MERICA so we have the "best of everything", but there are other places that have some better healthcare technologies, because they don't play financial games with it.

There is no place with better health care in the world than the USA. There are some European countries that offer more affordable care for the middle cash. But if you have money, you will have access to the best hospitals, doctors and specialists in the world.

Now why the US has expensive care for the middle class is in part due to insurance companies and also due to US culture which is "sue happy". Also we are the innovators in new medicines - someone has to pay the top prices in pharmaceuticals to convince them to hunt for new drugs and that's the US patient.

You OK with billions of our tax dollars going to other countries supporting their systems?

Is that a joke? We have the best. That's why the rich oil sheikhs come here for treatment.

In the uk and France, you get rationing

Breitbart reported that Obama thanked some governors. Big whoop. They didn't make any commentary on it.

If they did, they would probably highlight how they caved in to help expand an entitlement.

Btw, are you naive enough to think that anyone would re evaluate or scale down an entitlement once that happens?? Clearly Medicare and SS need some serious changes including a hike in the age of eligibility, but the aarp is making sure that never happens

There are some great hospitals in England and France but they are private and not available for free to the general public.

That's the end result really, no matter what system you introduce, the best/brightest/richest will have access to much better health care than even the middle class and will live longer as a result.

Don't like it? Make more money

Look, as a well educated computer and network engineer, who deals with some health problems, after years of research I can assure you that other countries have better medical technologies than the US in some areas.

You might not don't know it, but if you are well insured, your healthcare is driven by profit. I think you mentioned a broken bone? I'd guess your insurance company paid a fortune for your recovery, and you probably didn't get state of the art treatment. Why would a US Doctor learn new/better techniques when the pay is so good for doing the same old thing.

Sorry, I shouldn't interrupt your dream world.

But if you think the USA has the best healthcare in the world, even you should understand the obscenity of denying healthcare to some of our citizens.
