True, but 13 million is roughly the population of their respective metro areas added together.

You have to be joking if you don't think South FL is a dangerous place to be on the road. I hope that isn't what you are trying to say.

Not much is specific to FL - if people looked at the facts instead of being under the false impression that FL is in a different galaxy than the rest of the U.S. they would be in a better position to understand that just about everything that happens here happens elsewhere and sometimes in larger amounts.

In this study FL ranked 5th in pedestrian related accidents:
The 10 Most Dangerous States for Pedestrians - 24/7 Wall St.
North Carolina ranked 6th.
"Each year more than 2,400 pedestrians and 960 bicyclists are hit by vehicles in North Carolina, making North Carolina one of the least safe states in the US for walking and bicycling."

at Watch For Me NC

Nationally
"pedestrians were one of the few groups of road users to experience an increase in fatalities in the United States in 2013, totaling 4,735 deaths."

Pedestrians | National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)

Delaware is listed as the most dangerous states for pedestrians. They have a 13 pct "over 65" population and about 13 pct foreign born. There are just under 1 million people in DE.

That leaves a huge majority of about 740,000 in other groups. Doesnt seem the immigrants and senior citizens area a traffic menace there.

Overall, a major contributing factor to pedestrian/vehicle accidents are people who dart into traffic to cross the road and distracted drivers who dont have the time to react to a pedestrian in their path.

The more congested a city is the higher the amount of car crashes off all sorts.

So is the report that Miami, Tampa, Jacksonville and Orlando have the most pedestrian/bicycle deaths
based on a city or metro area?

That is extremely unusual. I would feel safe in Miami Beach, too.

When I get into my car, it's to drive somewhere off of Miami Beach.

But then again I drive in Europe, last year I drove in Istanbul. So what I see on American roads is no biggie for me.
