Good friend right now leaving NC to go back to Long Island NY. She's going back with only a car a bed and her clothes.
Bad decisions, or decisions made in haste can cause this to happen everywhere. And maybe even some good decisions go sour...move to go with your company and they go belly up, things like that.

Haha, TN, that's how I feel when going back to NY for a visit. That feeling of 'home' or whatever it is usually only lasts for a few days. I enjoy my visits but don't look over my shoulder when returning home to Oregon.

Oh, wow, Mrs. P. I wish your unfortunate friend all the luck. Hopefully she'll find a job and replenish what she lost.
We lived in the Bahamas from 1984 through 1987. I enjoyed visiting Miami for shopping trips and vacations (the Everglades are so awesome). Of course, as an ex-NYr, I've been down to Florida for the occasional vacation.
The weather in the Bahamas did me in. Those summers were just way too much. Apart from not being in America, which I felt keenly, I found it to be almost like New England in the winter where you don't want to leave your house. New England was too cold in winter and in Nassau it was too hot in summer.
My ideal would be to live in Florida for about half the year and leave from May through the end of October. That's not very practical but I can dream, right?

Lovin' Florida. It's a beautiful night and I'm sitting on my pool deck in Orlando waiting to see the shuttle take off....a night launch is always an awesome sight!

She'll be ok she's a smart young lady, and a beauty too boot. Her brother is a police officer on Long Island (can't remember what community). Officers are great at networking especially for open jobs. He'll help her along.
She made a hasty decision to move to NC, did not wait to find out what her commute would be (which ended up being horrible into Charlotte). She and her boyfriend, built a beautiful 350,000 home which is now worth around 285,000 or so...(his $ not hers). But....when they split up? she found out she could not afford to live in NC (Charlotte metro) with the wages paid there. So though she loves the weather, and the cleanliness of the area she resided in (trust me Charlotte has ghetto's she just never saw any of them).
she is going back to LI to get better wages, and to be with all her family which is still there. Plus she missed some of the sophistication NYC offered her, which is lacking in the Charlotte metro area.
She made 2 hasty decisions...build a house before she had a job, hence a horrible commute, and living with a guy she wasn't even engaged to.
So now she's broke, doesn't make enough income to support herself in this area of the US..and is going home to the assistance of her family, which will help her.
Before anyone moves to another state, and does not have their job lined up, they should never build/buy a home that fast. Better to know what kind of commute you will have first...or even if you'll like the climate and or people of a certain region.
I say RENT RENT RENT first, or least stay with friends, then make a decision to buy or not buy...makes recovering from a bad decision much easier.

I go back and forth between Ohio and Florida and I always miss Florida when I'm in Cincinnati. The sunshine, warmth, plants, wildlife, and vistas in Florida are simply heavenly to me. I'm one of those people who's usually cold, so Florida's heat is something I embrace. I can't wait to retire and make it my full time home.
P.S. The mantees and dolphins are an awesome site!

I think of moving to a city like Boston or Seattle. The culture etc. that I like is there, but whenever I go for a visit I am SO happy to come back to Tampa. It's as close as I can live to the caribbean - my palm trees and warm weather; white sand beaches. I love it here and think if I ever do move when in one of my funks about living here, I will regret it.

Wow..... I forgot I started this thread a while back!!! Too funny.
Ya I was missing it when I was freezing my butt off back then, now I am just waiting for that awesome cool Florida winter to get here, to give us a reprieve from this heat. And fresh air.
