The only thing I can say is that I lived in Florida in 1971. Was that the "old" Florida? Even though I didn't like it because of year round summer, I must say it certainly was different than now. Was that the difference between central Florida and SW Florida? I don't know. I certainly don't remember all the transplants, tourists, snowbirds, and retirees back then there. I may not like the weather in Florida, but I don't like the former either.

When people say they miss the "Old Florida" it's basically saying they miss everything you hate about Florida (minus the weather).

Proving you can't please everyone, so might as well do your own thing.

There weren't any transplants, tourists, etc., etc., back then where I lived. Are you saying people LIKE that? I doubt that. Anyway, I lived in a COLLEGE town. There were students and locals, period. It really could have been ANYWHERE, except for the weather. It was central florida and there was NO BEACH.

Actually, it was a lot better there and then than the here and now.

When will people understand that life is all about changes, nothing ever stays the same. It would be a boring life if you expect everything to be the same as it once "was".

Progressive and legal change is ok. Illegal immigration and crime kind of change is not.

This is the most positive thread I have ever read on city-data.com about Florida. Thanks. I have compiled a list (cut & paste from other websites) of 65 reasons why Florida (and of course....don't laugh.... Punta Gorda.... and I am still young...) is a great place. See Punta Gorda: Florida's Best Kept Secret here on the Fort Myers forum...

I do agree. But you might as well forget anyone doing anything about it for 3 1/2 more miserable years.

By then we will have 12-15 million illegal and unlawful crime breakers who will be given total ammunity from their crimes of being here and trashing our country and become one of us.

Illegal is illegal period. Its against the law to be here unlawfully.

And yes, I miss Florida every single day. Never stop thinking about it.
