And despite many things that make the process hard, students from around the world still massively flock to America's major universities for both undergraduate and graduate studies.
Exactly. My Euro ex came here a long time ago, on a visitors visa with a masters in Economics strictly with a dream to attend the Wharton School. Other family members were already here in medical school . When he couldn't pass the TOEFL, they actually told him to flip his major to engineering which he did, took some challenges, and attended the Moore School getting a second Masters and his Ph.D. Thanks to me and my English LOL.

Then you have Lynn University, Boca. American Underachievers Central but with that great marketing campaign for students who can pay big money for the American Education - my perception was that school was probably 20% native-born and the rest International.

Perhaps this comment better describes the large portion of American immigrants who become laxidasical once they live here compared to people in other countries, or the Florida mindset - and/or educational system.

The last comment is critical. People in the US in effect brought a lot of their children up with the idea they were special and would always be on top. Those in other Countries saw the opportunities here that would allow them to benefit from some hard work leading to opportunities that they could not find in their home Countries. They are coming and taking the jobs many simply didn't want to work for. Party time at the University is more important to many students from the US.

Not all of them, but so many do not plan, they expect their parents to fund their college years, or go deep into debt easily with college loans and then do not realize how much work they will really need to do to compete in today's US job market.
