With reading about these 2 towns they sound very nice. We currently live on a farm (which we are selling) and these areas sound as if we won't suffer culture shock. However, we do like to DO things and not just watch TV, etc. Do these towns have town wide events? I know there are the manatees which are fine but after you've seem them 500 times it will get thin. Do these towns have any "big box- stores" for shopping? We need a health food store because of medical problems/ food allergies, etc. What about supermarkets? Any and all info would be appreciated. The good, bad and ugly. The housing seems cheaper also and when on a fixed income that's a plus, but don't want to travel forever for a store or die of boredom either. Thanks.

Both of these towns are great to live in, but I prefer Crystal River. Big box stores are common in both areas. Lowes, Publix, Home Depot etc and of course your Walmart's. There is a Huffmans Heritage Health food store in Crystal River that is pretty nice also.

I personally like Crystal River better. With the nearby springs, Crystal River itself, Homossassa to the South, and the Gulf just a few hops away, there seems to be more to do than in Inverness IMO.
That said, as stated above, both have big box stores. You'll find everything you need in either location. They are small towns, but they are both pretty much the heart of their respective surroundings, and as such, come with all the amenities some bigger towns would get.

I also prefer Crystal River. So much to do if you like the water, great restaurants & cute shops/cafes in Heritage Village. And they do have different festivals & events throughout the year. They do both have health food stores and Ocala also has a nice one and is only an hour away. And such an easy drive to Homosassa or Cedar Key for a nice lunch or dinner. We love it here!
