Default 2% tax for life on purchase price of home?

Is this true? Or is it a county thing? I hear about it in the --- out of my league -- expensive Palm Beach area?

I am so totally confused about all the recent happenings...relative to insurance costs, property taxes, homestead act (protection from losing home?), and now this 2% lifetime tax rate on newly purchased homes.

Thanks.

Default Mr. Tudo - yes they do...in one full sweep

my prop taxes were nearly doubled ...just like that...home reassessed and new taxes to match...then they of course, keep adding additional sales tax...to items...like storage...health clubs...etc....every couple of months....and of course, a year ago...implemented a 1% realty transfer fee to the lovely garden state upon sale of home.

Oh, it's paradise alright.

Don't feel too bad. At least some of you have NYC to travel to for a days outing. Oooh how I would love to be in the city right now, just for the weekend.

But no chance of me ever living in that NJ paradise just for that. The price is just way too high.

Far as taxes, we all have lowlife politicians whose mission is to steal as much as they can from us and quite frankly, there's more people who have been able to come up with excuses as to it's necessity than not. It's not our forefathers America anymore

It's even worse than that. It's 2% on what the county assesor THINKS your house is worth, until your exemption kicks in.

Believe it or not, my property taxes in Citrus county went DOWN this year, by about 60 bucks!
