Moving to Palatka Florida.
In about three weeks I am moving from Indiana to Pomona Park/ Palatka Florida. Does anyone know where this place is or what its like.
What kind of weather do you have to contend with?
Im used to cold weather so how long will it take to reaccustom my body to a much warmer climate?

Kinda small and sleeply little town with lots of lakes and woods nearby for hunting and fishing.
Spring is starting now but there could be a few more cold mornings around freezing. The 90 degree weather will start in April but it will be with lower humidity than later in the summer. It will stay hot until November then cool down nicely.
It wont be any hotter than Indiana in the summer but just will last a lot longer.

Palatka is very hot. It's not very close to the ocean so get used to 90+ degree weather from april to early october. You are also in for a culture shock unless you are from a small farming town in Indiana because Palatka is Deep South to the bone. I live about 45 minutes from there and I like it there and take day trips there every once in a while to enjoy the parks, river, and Walt's BBQ, but unless you like small town Southern culture, you might want to get out as quick as you got in.

You'll do your major adjusting to the heat fairly quickly, a few months. By a year's passing, you'll be fine and you'll tolerate it much better.
Palatka is a town with some potential, unfortunately, I don't know if it will ever be tapped. There is a little stretch along the river that is quaint with some pretty Victorian homes and a riverside park, but beyond that it is a poor town, sad to say.
Your City-Data name suggests you are a female, so I want to recommend that you rent in a safe place - do not skimp on your rental budget.
Areas around Palatka have enjoyed the fruits of a strong real estate market and people relocating from out of area, but not Palatka, it remains virtually unchanged.

It's a pretty nice town. Again, like most of the posters are saying, it's your typical rural Florida city.

Be sure to eat at Gator Landing which is closer to San Mateo, a tiny little town on the south side of the big bridge. GL is right on the river and has a spectacular view. Palatka has it's good and bad like any other rural Florida town.

Palatka or like some call it: The Bass Capitol of the world, is a typical Floridian town. You will enjoy quietness compare to other cities. Then, you have Saint Augustine which is about 45 minutes away.
contact the Putnam County Chamber of Commerce Putnam County County Chamber of Commerce
they will provide you with a re-locating kit, also ask for maps.
Best of luck.

Check out the San Mateo area- it's a few miles south of Palatka, very charming and small townish. It's lovely.

Palatka is the armpit of Florida. This city should be avoided at all costs. I had the horrible opportunity to work and live there. A very large portion of housing in Palatka is government housing or subsidized housing. It is s great city if your a dirtbag or just have no plans to do anything with your life. There are more drug issues there than in most major cities. Oh yeah, and San Mateo, Crescent City, and any other town nearby I can only say it gets worse. Most people I speak with are trying with all of their might to get out of Palatka and go somewhere they can have a better life.

Are you kidding me! Palatka is anything but charming and Walt's BBQ went out of business. Believe me when I say this Palatka is like that gum you get on the bottom of your shoe.
