St. Pete has slightly lower taxes (but please don't buy right now!), slightly lower insurance, significantly higher crime, decent nightlife in it's walkable downtown. I'm contemplating heading to the gulf coast myself (currently live west of Fort L.). You can rent downtown for as low as 600 a month and not be anywhere too crappy.
