We are moving back to Florida in a few months. We have narrowed the field of towns in which to live to Satellite Beach, Viera, or Melbourne. This is the area we want because of work. One of our biggest concerns is schooling. Our daughter is a Freshman and I have been doing research to find out which of these high schools most closely match her current school academically. Surprisingly, where we are now our school has high scores in reading, average scores in math. The reserve is true for the three areas I mentioned above. I found this fact very interesting and thought I'd ask for some insight from others who may have high schoolers. If your child attends high school in one of these towns, do you feel they are academically doing well? Also, does Florida have "cyber" schools?

i went to satellite high. was nothing special, but i got a pretty decent education i'd say. my fiancee went to mel high and said it was pretty crappy and i had a few friends that went to rockledge, which was awful. in fact, when we moved we lived in the rockledge school zone, but my parents faked an apartment in satellite so we could go there.
there's been a bunch of new schools built since i graduated, so im not sure about them. but of the 3 i mentioned above, i'd go satellite. keep in mind though, it's been 9 years since i been. |

I don't have kids in school, but Viera just built a new high school.

Viera just built a brand new high school its about a year old. rockledge had a nice school as well. There is a problem with schools being overcrowded and shipping kids from cocoa to rockledge seems it is more of a problem in middle school.

Below are are some good links. I have done extensive research and from what I have found the Brevard public school system is the best south of Gainesville, FL. I have run into many people in the area that have told me they chose to move to the Satellite Beach/Viera areas because of its education system. We are closing on our house in Satellite Beach in less than 2 weeks and plan to send our kids through the public school system starting with Ocean Breeze Elementary up through Satellite High. There are also excellent private options in the area as well (links below). Good luck!!
