I am currently in Crystal River (RV-ing). You could not pick a lovlier area.
That having been said, I am outta here shortly and headed for the ocean side.
The waterviews from here to Yankee Town include the massive power plant belching steam. It is such a shame that otherwise unspoiled, natural, absolutely beautiful surroundings are marred by that thing. I was really surprised. There is a cool little swimming area in downtown Crystal River that has a sign warning that people are getting rashes swimming there. There were folks in the water, playing and having a ball anyway.
This is a nice residential (spelled RETIREMENT) kind of area. Any kind of medical facility you could possibly need is prominately advertised and available. Depressing to drive down rt. 19 and instead of seeing surfy, tropical, beachy, resorty-kind of enterprises, instead you'll see "LEG VEIN CLINIC" spelled out in lights LOL!!!

I don't know much about the area, I live in Orlando. But I would NEVER live in manufactured housing in Florida if I had ANY other choice. I know a couple of people who live in quite nice, but still 'Trailor Parks". They look beautfiul, even a little upscale...if a trailor park can be called that. The landscaping is incredible. BUT every time we had any kind of hurricane come within a few hundred miles of us, they had to evacuate. The main damage to homes around here during Charlie in 2004 was to mobile homes. Most of the CB homes may have had some shingle damage but unless they were in line to get hit by a tree OR unless they had water damage from rain intrusion...their overall damage was minimal. Their pool screen or aluminum porches may be been twisted, but their homes were intact.
Also we are much further inland than the area you're thinking of. Florida is not a good place to live in manufactured housing, IMHO.

I'd have to say though, that Florida must have the most adorable home styles that I've seen anywhere, bar none!. Those little "mini-mansions" or whatever they are called Not sure if those are the same as the "double wides" (Rancher styles.) as "manufactured". They look like stucco on the outside. They can't be more than all of 1200-1900 sf but just loaded with character: pillers, little porticos walls and walls of palladian windows and would be really light and bright inside. No two appear alike.
I WANT ONE!!! Is this what y'all call "Bahama style"
or what are they? This pretty much seems to be all they're building around here right now, (along with the "double-wides")

Citrus County and raising children
I see you were responded to privately last year when asking about Crystal River being a good place to raise kids. It is important I find this out asap so can you please share anything you learned about citrus county. My husband was offered a job there and it seems so rural/country to me where I wonder what kids do there.
Please email PKKL916@hotmail.com - thanks.

Is it possible to get a 10 acre lot a reasonable price in CR? What kind of vegetables & fruits grow in a typical backyard?
Based on internet search, we thought that the neighborhood around Seven Rivers hospital might be good - would you rate that community as safe to raise children?
Thanks in advance,

Crystal River is in no way an Orlando suburb. It would take at least 40-45 minutes to get from CR just out to I-75 and then the straightest shot would be the Turnpike and that's another hour or hour and a half easy. Crystal River is low crime, the closest thing to any kind of trouble area around there may be Beverly Hills, but even that's mild compared to St. Pete/Oralndo/ Tampa.
